ABC News suspended senior national correspondent Terry Moran on June 8, 2025, after he posted criticism of President Donald Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller on X. Two days later, ABC said it would not renew Moran’s agreement, which it said was at its end, because the post violated its policies. The suspension and the nonrenewal were separate steps; ABC’s public wording was that it would not renew his agreement, not that it had ended the agreement early.
Why did ABC News end its relationship with Terry Moran?
ABC first suspended Moran pending further evaluation. In its June 8 statement, the network said, “ABC News stands for objectivity and impartiality in its news coverage and does not condone subjective personal attacks on others.” The Associated Press reported the suspension and ABC’s explanation.
On June 10, ABC announced that it would not renew Moran’s agreement. An ABC News spokesperson told CBS News: “We are at the end of our agreement with Terry Moran and based on his recent post – which was a clear violation of ABC News policies – we have made the decision to not renew.” The spokesperson added that ABC held its reporters to high standards of “objectivity, fairness and professionalism” and remained committed to straightforward, trusted journalism. CBS News reported ABC’s June 10 statement.
Contemporary headlines described Moran as “out” or “fired,” but ABC’s stated explanation was that the agreement had reached its end and the network decided not to renew it. The public statements establish ABC’s stated policy rationale; they do not disclose the agreement’s private terms or the details of internal deliberations.

What did Terry Moran post about Trump and Stephen Miller?
The post appeared shortly after midnight on June 8 and was later deleted. Contemporary reporting quoted Moran describing Miller as “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred” and a “world-class hater.” Reports also said Moran characterized Trump’s hatred as serving his own glorification. Because the post was deleted, these descriptions should be understood as wording reproduced by news reports, not as a currently available original post. CBS News covered the post and suspension.
