A cloud service saying “started” only confirms what that service reports about its own process; it does not prove that YouTube is receiving a usable signal for the intended broadcast. Check the exact event in YouTube Live Control Room: note its incoming preview, Health Indicator errors and timestamps, then compare those times with the cloud service’s logs. This helps distinguish a missing connection from an invalid feed, a key or event mismatch, or a problem limited to a viewer’s playback.
First identify which screen says “offline”
“Offline” can describe different states: the cloud service’s encoder or connection, YouTube’s Live Control Room, or the public watch page. Record the broadcast title, event URL or ID, the local time and time zone, and the exact status shown in each place. Preserve the wording before restarting the stream or changing settings; doing so makes it easier to match the incident to logs and health errors.
- Ask whether the problem affects one viewer or several viewers on different connections. YouTube says a report from one viewer probably points to that viewer’s computer or connection; reports from multiple viewers may indicate an encoder issue. See YouTube’s live streaming troubleshooting guidance.
- Check whether the public page is for the same scheduled broadcast that the cloud service is sending to. A cloud service can be running while the wrong event is open or the intended broadcast has not been started.
Use YouTube’s event health and preview as the reference
Open the intended event in YouTube Live Control Room or the Live Dashboard. YouTube says, “The Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check for errors in the stream that you’re sending to YouTube.” Its live error messages appear beside the Health Indicator with a timestamp; YouTube describes red errors as critical and yellow errors as moderate. Review YouTube’s live streaming error messages, then line up the first relevant timestamp with the cloud service’s status and logs.
No incoming preview or signal
If YouTube does not show an incoming signal for the intended event, investigate the outgoing connection, ingest destination, stream key and event association. The cloud dashboard’s “running” or “started” label is not a substitute for seeing the signal arrive at YouTube.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Preview appears, but YouTube reports a warning or error
A preview means data is reaching YouTube, but it may be invalid, incomplete or degraded. Use the specific Health Indicator message to choose what to investigate. YouTube documents errors involving stream format, codecs, bitrate, audio settings, resolution, and primary or backup configuration. Its API reference describes videoIngestionStarved as YouTube not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. See YouTube’s error guidance and the Live Streams API health status reference.
Preview and health look sound, but the watch page appears offline
Check that the intended broadcast itself has been started and that the viewer is looking at the correct event page. If only one person reports the issue, compare playback on another device or connection before changing the cloud encoder.

Verify the destination, key and event association
- Confirm the target event. In YouTube Live Control Room, open the broadcast that should receive the stream. Compare its title or event ID with the cloud service’s destination settings.
- Check the output destination. Confirm the cloud service is sending to the intended YouTube ingest URL and, if applicable, the intended primary or backup destination.
- Verify the stream key. Compare the key configured in the cloud service with the current key in the YouTube settings for that event. Make sure the URL and key have not been put in each other’s fields. If YouTube’s error specifically calls for a new key, update the third-party encoder with the current key.
- Change one thing at a time. After correcting a destination, key or event mismatch, check the event preview and Health Indicator again. Avoid changing unrelated encoder settings at the same time, which can obscure the cause.
YouTube’s troubleshooting instructions cover updating a third-party encoder with a new stream key when indicated by the startup error. If the stream passes through a relay, Restream’s YouTube streaming troubleshooting guide recommends reconnecting the YouTube channel or resetting its key in relevant cases. That advice applies to its relay workflow, not automatically to every cloud service.
Compare the error time with the cloud encoder and network path
Ask the cloud provider to check the encoder process state, output destination and disconnect or reconnect events around the same timestamps as YouTube’s errors. The exact logs available depend on the provider; YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a standard set of cloud-provider log fields.

YouTube recommends checking stream quality in the encoder, reviewing encoder errors and CPU load, inspecting a local archive if one is available, and testing outbound internet strength. For a hosted encoder, the provider is best placed to check its process and outgoing path. A cloud incident alone does not establish that your home computer or local hardware is the cause.
Run a direct YouTube test only if it is safe for the workflow
If a third-party relay or hosted service sits between the source and YouTube, a direct test can help isolate that part of the chain. Restream recommends testing a direct YouTube stream if its connection troubleshooting has not resolved the issue. Treat this as a diagnostic comparison, not proof that the relay is at fault. Avoid disrupting a scheduled or currently active broadcast just to test; use a safe test event or window where possible.

When to consider changing providers
First establish that the issue is provider-side rather than an event, key, configuration or viewer problem. If comparing services, ask how each one exposes per-destination status and timestamps, disconnect and reconnect logs, scheduled-event association and key management, direct-to-YouTube testing, and support availability during your streaming hours. These are useful evaluation criteria, not a claim that one provider has been tested against another.
Or let it run in the cloud
