Here’s who plays each family member, how the relationships fit together, and which characters belong to the wider story rather than the Guinness family tree.
Who’s in the House of Guinness cast?
The central family and its actors are:
| Character | Played by | Relationship or role |
|---|---|---|
| Sir Benjamin Guinness | Not stated in Netflix’s cast guide | Patriarch; his death and will set the story in motion |
| Arthur Guinness | Anthony Boyle | Eldest brother |
| Benjamin “Ben” Guinness | Fionn O’Shea | Brother |
| Edward Guinness | Louis Partridge | Youngest sibling and brother |
| Anne Plunket, née Guinness | Emily Fairn | Only daughter and eldest sibling |
| Agnes Guinness | Dervla Kirwan | The siblings’ aunt |
| Adelaide Guinness | Ann Skelly | A Guinness cousin |
Netflix’s official cast guide identifies the siblings, their performers and these family connections. It describes Sir Benjamin’s will as affecting the fate of his four adult children; the guide does not name the actor playing him.
How does the Guinness family tree fit together?
- Sir Benjamin Guinness is the father at the center of the story.
- Arthur, Ben, Edward and Anne are his children. Anne is the only daughter; after marriage, she goes by Plunket.
- Agnes Guinness is their aunt, and Adelaide Guinness is their cousin.
That is the core family tree. Other important characters connect to the brewery, Dublin politics or the siblings’ personal lives, but are not presented as their siblings.
Who is in the wider House of Guinness cast?
Sean Rafferty
James Norton plays Sean Rafferty, a factory foreman. He is connected to the brewery, not one of Sir Benjamin’s children.

#1 Best Overall
Ellen Cochrane
Niamh McCormack plays Ellen Cochrane, a figure in the show’s political and Dublin ensemble. She is not identified as a Guinness relative in Netflix’s cast guide.
Is House of Guinness a true story?
The series is inspired by the real Guinness family and historical events, but it is a dramatization, not a documentary. Netflix’s official synopsis places the story after Sir Benjamin’s death in a 19th-century Dublin and New York setting. Its cast guide says creator Steven Knight used history as a starting point and filled gaps in the record. Knight described the approach as taking the family’s “achievements and mistakes” as “stepping stones” to fill those gaps.
The family relationships and actors listed above are identified by Netflix. Character traits and storylines—including Ben’s struggles, sibling conflicts, ambitions, dialogue and motives—should be understood as the show’s portrayal unless independently documented. A character’s inspiration in a real person does not establish that every event or personality detail happened as shown.
Has House of Guinness been renewed for Season 2?
Netflix announced a Season 2 renewal on August 24, 2026, in its renewal update. That announcement did not give a premiere date.
