Vince Costello was a Fiji-born location manager and longtime Survivor crew member, not a contestant. He helped find and prepare Fiji locations for the show’s camps, challenges and Tribal Council. Viewers saw his name in a memorial dedication at the end of the Survivor 49 premiere in 2025.
What did Vince Costello do on Survivor?
Costello worked as a location manager during the show’s production in Fiji. Reports describe him scouting sites in the Mamanuca Islands for tribe camps, challenge areas and Tribal Council. In practical terms, his work helped establish where the on-island parts of the series could take place.
Coverage places his start with Survivor in 2016, when the series moved production to Fiji for Season 33, Millennials vs. Gen X. TV Insider reported that he had worked on around 50 productions, attributing that figure to a People feature; it is a reported career estimate, not a complete independently verified credit count. Why did Survivor 49 dedicate its premiere to him?
The 2025 premiere ended with the message: “In loving memory of Vince Costello, forever in our hearts.” Reports later said Costello died after production wrapped on Survivor 50. The chronology matters: the dedication appeared in the Season 49 premiere, while the reported timing of his death was after Season 50 filming. TV Insider and Parade reported that he was 61.
