What do federal prosecutors allege?
On July 20, 2026, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced the unsealing of a 15-count racketeering indictment charging 11 defendants. Prosecutors allege that six named defendants and others attempted an armed carjacking of Mejia-Polanco and shot her during a high-speed pursuit on the Cross County Parkway. U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York
The indictment is an accusation, not a finding of guilt. The Justice Department says defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The official announcement establishes the indictment, but does not establish a later plea, trial, conviction, sentence, or other court outcome.
