Before TikTok made her famous and before she was publicly linked with Kourtney Kardashian, Addison Rae Easterling was a Louisiana teenager with years of dance training and ambitions to perform. In 2019, she enrolled at Louisiana State University to study broadcast journalism, joined TikTok that July, and began posting dance videos. The app accelerated a path toward entertainment; it did not create her interest in performing.
Growing up in Louisiana, with dance at the center
Rae was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana. She began dance lessons at six and studied ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. Her family moved around Louisiana and spent a period in Houston, Texas, as she grew up.
In a 2025 interview with ELLE, Rae described the support behind that early training: “My family sacrificed a lot to get me in dance classes and to put me in a nice school.” She also said, “I grew up dancing; I’ve always loved to sing.” Her later interest in music and acting was an extension of longstanding performance ambitions, not a sudden turn after going viral.
What Addison Rae was doing before TikTok took off
LSU and an early plan for broadcasting
After high school, Rae enrolled at Louisiana State University in 2019. She hoped to join the LSU dance team but did not make it, and then studied broadcast journalism. Her initial career plan was sports broadcasting—a way, she thought, to work in entertainment.

Posting dance videos in 2019
Rae joined TikTok in July 2019 while at LSU and started posting dance videos. The audience grew quickly: W Magazine reported that she reached one million followers by October 2019. Biography.com says she had passed one million by the time she left LSU in November. These are historical milestones, not present-day follower counts.
By late 2019, Rae left school to pursue social-media work and soon moved to Los Angeles. A 2021 Los Angeles Times profile reported that her family later relocated to California to support her and described their financial limits at the time. The transition was not simply an overnight discovery: dance training, family support, online friendships, brand work, and industry meetings were part of the path.

When the Kardashians entered the public story
The Kardashian connection came after Rae’s childhood and LSU period, not before her TikTok breakthrough. In August 2021, the Los Angeles Times described Kourtney Kardashian as one of Rae’s best friends and reported that Rae had appeared frequently in the final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. That establishes a visible public association by 2021; it does not show that the Kardashian family caused Rae’s initial rise or document the private chronology of their relationship.

TikTok gave Rae a large audience and access to entertainment opportunities in Los Angeles, including acting, brand work, and later television appearances. In the 2025 ELLE interview, she acknowledged the role the platform played: “I acknowledge how lucky I am that I was on TikTok, and people cared enough to watch my videos and follow me, and therefore gave me the freedom to be able to explore my deep desires that I’ve always had.” Her 2025 debut album, Addison, marks how far her career had expanded from dance videos, but the performing impulse predated the app.
