Celeste Rivas Hernandez was 14 when she died. Her remains were found on September 8, 2025, in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to musician David Anthony Burke, who performs as D4vd. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s reported finding was homicide; Burke has pleaded not guilty, and the case had not gone to trial as of October 8, 2026.

What is known about Celeste Rivas Hernandez?

Celeste was 14 at the time of her death. Her family remembered her as “a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance,” in a statement reported by ABC News. Publicly available details about her life are limited in the accounts summarized here, so they do not support a fuller biography.

How were her remains found?

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s account, Celeste arrived at Burke’s Hollywood Hills home on April 23, 2025, and was not seen again. That is the prosecution’s account of the timeline, not a finding made at trial.

On September 8, 2025, her remains were discovered in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke. The vehicle had been reported abandoned and impounded, according to the DA’s account. ABC News reported that the death investigation report was completed on December 9, 2025.

What did the medical examiner report?

ABC News reported on April 22, 2026, that the released Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s report listed the cause of death as multiple penetrating injuries and the manner of death as homicide. ABC also reported two torso wounds, including an injury to the liver.

A medical examiner’s homicide determination classifies the manner of death; it does not identify who caused it or establish a defendant’s guilt.

What do prosecutors allege, and what does the defense say?

The DA alleges that Burke fatally stabbed Celeste and dismembered her. In the office’s summary of preliminary-hearing testimony, prosecutors described evidence including blood in Burke’s garage that they said matched Celeste’s DNA profile, and small blue plastic fragments from an inflatable pool that they said were embedded in her remains. These are prosecution allegations and testimony described by the DA, not findings by a jury.

Burke’s attorneys have denied that he murdered Celeste or caused her death. ABC News reported their statement: “The actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death.”

What is the status of the case?

After a five-day preliminary hearing, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge ordered Burke to stand trial on July 27, 2026, on the charges listed by the DA. Burke pleaded not guilty. ABC News’s timeline says he again pleaded not guilty at a post-preliminary arraignment on August 31, when his next court date was set for October 19, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, that date was still in the future; the case had not been tried.

District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman characterized the prosecution’s presentation as evidence that proved Burke’s guilt. That was the DA’s assessment, not a court’s verdict. The DA’s release states that the charges are allegations and that Burke is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
