Netflix’s Season 4 cast guide identifies Eddie as the president of Hawkins High’s Hellfire Club; official Netflix coverage refers to the actor as both Joe Quinn and Joseph Quinn.
Who is Eddie Munson?
Eddie is a metalhead and the Dungeon Master and president of the Hellfire Club, Hawkins High’s Dungeons & Dragons group. The club includes Dustin Henderson and Mike Wheeler, and sometimes Lucas Sinclair. Netflix describes Eddie as taking the younger students under his wing.
In Season 4, the group’s fantasy game echoes the supernatural danger unfolding around them. Eddie’s mix of outsider status, humor and loyalty makes him a key figure in the season’s story.
How Joseph Quinn came to play Eddie
Quinn told Netflix Tudum that he auditioned in November 2019 with an early version of Eddie’s introductory speech. The Duffer brothers said Quinn’s audition helped them understand who Eddie could be. That account comes from the show’s creators and Quinn in Netflix’s interview.

What happens to Eddie at the end of Season 4?
Eddie stays behind to fight the Demobats and buy his friends more time, and he dies in the finale. Quinn later said he would have been happy to return for a vision or dream sequence if asked. That expressed willingness was not confirmation that Eddie would appear again.
Reflecting on the character’s impact, Quinn pointed to “being falsely accused, redemption, I guess, is a motif in his story, self-sacrifice, friendship, camaraderie.” He also described heroism as “serving an idea, doing something that will not benefit you.”
