Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Snoop Dogg appeared in the Los Angeles handover segment at the Paris 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony on August 11, 2024. Their performances were part of the ceremony’s introduction to Los Angeles, host of the next Summer Games in 2028. H.E.R. had a separate role: she sang the U.S. national anthem live at Stade de France.
Which artists performed, and where?
The ceremony’s finale moved from Paris to a Los Angeles-themed handover. H.E.R. performed the U.S. national anthem at Stade de France, while the California artists’ performances came from Long Beach as part of the LA28 segment. The distinction matters: the artists were all associated with the handover, but they did not all perform live on the same Paris stage.
LA28’s August 10 announcement named Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Snoop Dogg in the musical lineup and said H.E.R. would sing the anthem live in Paris. NBCUniversal’s event-day announcement specified that Snoop Dogg would participate in the handover, Eilish and Red Hot Chili Peppers would perform, and H.E.R. would sing at Stade de France.
What songs did they perform?
The Associated Press reported these songs in its recap of the ceremony:
#1 Best Overall
- Red Hot Chili Peppers played “Can’t Stop.”
- Billie Eilish performed “Birds of a Feather.”
- Snoop Dogg performed “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” then brought Dr. Dre out for “The Next Episode.”
TIME’s account of the handover also describes the Long Beach sequence and the Eilish and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.

The Olympic flag passed from Paris to Los Angeles, and LA28 used the segment to present the next host city through local artists and culture. In its announcement, LA28 described its aim as introducing Los Angeles to the world through entertainment, diversity, creativity and sport. Chairperson Casey Wasserman called it “the biggest moment in LA28 history to date” as “the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA,” adding that the group was “thrilled to feature the very best of LA with local artists.”
The ceremony’s structure reflected that change of host city: Paris’s closing celebration gave way to a Los Angeles-focused handover. The performances were therefore not simply a concert added to the closing ceremony; they formed part of the presentation of the next Summer Games host.
