Cobweb is a 2023 horror film about an eight-year-old boy who hears a voice inside his bedroom wall. Its Halloween setting, unnerving family home and fairy-tale strangeness make it a plausible pick for viewers after atmospheric horror—but a Tom’s Guide review also warns that the twist may be predictable and the final act less satisfying. Netflix availability varies by country and date, so check your local catalog.
What is Cobweb about?
Peter (Woody Norman), an eight-year-old living with his parents Carol (Lizzy Caplan) and Mark (Antony Starr), hears persistent knocking from his bedroom walls. His parents dismiss his concerns, but Peter begins communicating with a voice that says it is trapped inside the wall. What the voice reveals points toward secrets in the family’s past and makes Peter see his home differently. That premise, as described in Tom’s Guide’s September 19, 2025 recommendation, is best approached without learning more about the reveal.
What makes it an eerie Halloween pick?
The film builds unease out of familiar domestic details: Peter’s bedroom, locked doors, a grandfather clock and a hole in the wall. Tom’s Guide’s writer highlights distorted framing and shadows, as well as the unsettling presence of Peter’s parents. The effect is less about a conventional haunted-house setup than the suspicion that something is wrong inside an ordinary family home.
Tom’s Guide compares its fairytale-like atmosphere to a darker, more twisted Coraline. That is the reviewer’s comparison, not a formal classification or a claim of consensus. The article says director Samuel Bodin had Coraline in mind and wanted Cobweb to have a “mythical feel.”

Is Cobweb worth watching?
If you enjoy uncanny domestic horror, unsettling family dynamics and visual atmosphere, the premise may make Cobweb a good fit. Tom’s Guide praises Caplan and Starr’s performances and calls the film suspenseful and visually distinctive. The same reviewer is less enthusiastic about the final act and says the twist may be predictable, so it may work better as an eerie mood piece than as a horror film whose ending is guaranteed to surprise.
Tom’s Guide reported Rotten Tomatoes scores of 59% from critics and 71% from audiences on September 19, 2025. Those are dated figures and can change; they should not be read as current scores. The article also cited a $10 million worldwide gross from Box Office Mojo for 2023, a reported figure rather than an independently reverified total here.
