She has drawn public attention not only through her family but also through speeches advocating for mask access and cleaner indoor air. In July 2024, she addressed the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors about a post-viral condition she experienced; in September 2025, she spoke at a United Nations event on children, long COVID and clean air.
Who is Violet Affleck?
Violet Affleck is the eldest child of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. Public reporting has identified her as their daughter, but the available reports do not establish details of her private life or family arrangements.
Reports described her as 18 during her July 2024 county-board remarks and as 19 in coverage of her September 2025 UN appearance. Those are ages reported at those times, not a verified current age. Good Morning America and Vanity Fair identified her as a Yale University student in September 2025; that dated description does not confirm her enrollment in 2026.
What did she say about mask bans and public health?
On July 9, 2024, Affleck spoke during public comment at a Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors meeting. She opposed mask bans and described having experienced a post-viral condition in 2019. The Los Angeles Times quoted her saying, “I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. I’m OK now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief.” She did not name a diagnosis, so her remarks do not establish that she had long COVID. (Los Angeles Times)

Her comments were requests to county officials about public policy, not endorsements of particular products. She called for mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers. She also asked for masks in county medical facilities and wider access to free testing and treatment. The Los Angeles Times reported that she cited “one in 10” infections leading to long COVID; that figure should be understood as a statistic she used in her speech, not as an independently verified estimate here. Why did Violet Affleck speak at the United Nations?
In September 2025, Affleck spoke at the inaugural UN event “Healthy Indoor Air: A Global Call to Action.” Good Morning America reported that her address focused on long COVID in children and the need for clean-air infrastructure. She said, “We can recognize filtered air as a human right as intuitively as we do filtered water.” She also told the audience, “I represent a generation that in many ways already knows how we’ve been failed. We are told by leaders across the board that we are the future. But when it comes to the ongoing pandemic, our present is being stolen right in front of our eyes.” These were remarks at the event, not comments from an interview. Good Morning America also reported that she wore an N95 mask there. (Good Morning America)
In its account of the event, Good Morning America summarized a 2025 JAMA Pediatrics review as reporting long COVID in up to 10% to 20% of children with a history of COVID-19. That is the review’s reported range as relayed by the news report; it is not an estimate about Affleck. (Good Morning America)
