The New York Ripper is Don Framt, played by Brian Cox. Paramount+ officially identified the character in its Season 2 trailer breakdown. As of October 8, 2026, Season 2 had not premiered, so this is an official character listing—not an identity reveal shown in a Season 2 episode.
How the New York Ripper’s identity was confirmed
Paramount+’s October 6, 2026, Season 2 trailer breakdown lists Brian Cox as Don Framt, also identified as the New York Ripper. Paramount Press Express had announced Cox’s casting on April 2, 2026, corroborating his role; the later trailer breakdown supplies the character’s name.

The distinction matters if you encountered speculation about a mystery in Season 1: the official Don Framt identification comes from Season 2 materials. Paramount’s spoiler-marked Season 1 recap describes Dexter Morgan waking from a coma, finding Harrison in New York, and becoming entangled with Leon Prater’s group of serial killers, but does not name the Ripper in its displayed recap text.
What is known about Don Framt
Paramount describes Framt as a serial killer who terrorized New York years earlier. He is no longer actively killing, but continues to maintain his notoriety by taunting survivors of his past spree. The official materials frame him as part of the forthcoming Season 2 story; they do not establish a victim count or provide an actor or showrunner interview explaining the identity.
