Mona Patel is an entrepreneur and philanthropist from Vadodara, Gujarat, who became a breakout fashion name after her 2024 Met Gala debut. She wore a custom Iris van Herpen gown, styled by Law Roach, with a kinetic arm piece created with artist Casey Curran. Vogue India later reported another Met Gala appearance in 2026, in a Dolce & Gabbana look inspired by Leonardo da Vinci.
Who is Mona Patel?
Vogue India describes Patel as an entrepreneur and philanthropist born in Vadodara, Gujarat. She moved to the United States for higher education at Rutgers University and settled there in 2003 to pursue business. The profile does not establish additional details about her degree or business finances.
Vogue identifies Couture For Cause as Patel’s nonprofit, connecting fashion and philanthropy. Its reporting says Patel raised funds and donations by auctioning one-of-a-kind couture, much of it from her personal archive. Those details come from fashion journalism; the available reporting does not establish the organization’s legal status, financial statements, or measurable program results. Vogue India’s 2024 profile and British Vogue’s coverage do not provide a verifiable financial figure for her business, so descriptions such as “million-dollar empire” should not be treated as documented statistics.
Why did Mona Patel turn heads at the 2024 Met Gala?
Patel made her Met Gala debut in a custom Iris van Herpen gown styled by Law Roach. Vogue India describes a sculpted nude-colored dress with a butterfly-shaped corset and scalloped train, created in response to the evening’s “Garden of Time” dress code.

The striking moving detail was an arm piece developed with kinetic motion artist Casey Curran. British Vogue describes its moving forms as flower petals, while Vogue India presents a butterfly-like visual effect. It is more accurate to call it a kinetic artwork worn with the gown than to imply the dress itself was a functioning mechanical butterfly.
Patel told British Vogue: “I wanted my debut look to be something that celebrates my heritage and also combines my love couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice,” The quotation appears with that wording in the source. British Vogue also reports that Roach traveled to India during preparations and that the team visited a Mumbai factory with members of Iris van Herpen’s team.
