Master Tengen is an immortal sorcerer whose technique and barrier work make them a key figure in the protection of Japan. Tengen lives beneath Tokyo Jujutsu High, and the official anime story places them at the center of the Culling Game conflict—guarded by Choso and Yuki.
Who is Master Tengen in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Tengen is a sorcerer with an immortality technique, not simply an ordinary person who has lived for an unusually long time. The official Jujutsu Kaisen character profile describes Tengen as a key figure in Japan’s barriers. That role makes Tengen important well beyond their secluded residence: the character is connected to the barrier network that protects the country.
Tengen resides in the Main Hall of the Tombs of the Star Corridor beneath Tokyo Jujutsu High. The profile lists Ryoko Sakakibara as Tengen’s voice actor in the anime.
Why is Tengen immortal?
The official profile identifies Tengen’s ability as an immortality technique. That is the supported explanation for the character’s unusually long existence; it does not mean Tengen is an ordinary human simply aging very slowly. The profile does not explain the technique’s full mechanics or consequences, so those details should be treated as manga spoilers rather than inferred from the brief character description.

Why does Tengen need a Star Plasma Vessel?
The Star Plasma Vessel is associated with Tengen’s story, but the official character profile cited here does not explain why a vessel is needed or how the process works. Tengen’s immortality technique, the barrier role, and the Star Plasma Vessel plotline are distinct pieces of the character’s story; one should not be used as a substitute explanation for another.
How is Tengen connected to the Culling Game?
The official anime story synopsis describes the Culling Game as a conflict orchestrated by Kenjaku, with characters entering colony barriers to pursue their objectives. It specifically says Choso and Yuki guard Tengen, who is secluded in the Tombs of the Star Corridor. This establishes Tengen’s continuing importance to the storyline, but the synopsis alone does not establish every detail of the game’s mechanics or Tengen’s role in its outcome.

Manga spoilers and anime coverage
For the fuller explanation of Tengen’s history and the Star Plasma Vessel storyline, read the manga by Gege Akutami. The Shonen Jump series listing identifies the work as a manga by Akutami. The franchise’s official comics page lists volumes 29 and 30 and identifies volume 30 as the final volume, with December 25, 2024 shown as their release date.
Anime coverage varies by release and territory. The official story page confirms Tengen’s place in the Culling Game storyline, but it is not a complete episode-to-chapter guide; do not assume every manga revelation about Tengen has been adapted in every market.
