Kenza Layli is a fictional, AI-generated Moroccan virtual influencer—not a human beauty-pageant contestant. In July 2024, she won the inaugural Miss AI competition, a private contest for AI-created personas organized by the World AI Creator Awards (WAICA) in partnership with creator platform Fanvue. The title made her the first Miss AI winner; it did not make her the winner of a recognized human pageant.
Who is Kenza Layli?
Layli is a synthetic digital persona presented online as a Moroccan lifestyle influencer and activist. Her character is associated with themes including Moroccan culture, women’s empowerment, diversity and inclusion, environmental awareness, and responsible AI. Her content has been presented in several languages, including Moroccan Arabic.
Those themes and any first-person statements belong to the character’s public identity and the team that operates it. Layli is not an autonomous person with independent beliefs, citizenship, or lived experience. A useful distinction is: Kenza Layli is the public-facing character; a human creator and team make and manage the content.

Who created her?
News coverage identifies her creator as Moroccan AI creator Meriam Bessa, whose name is also rendered as Myriam Bessa in some reports. She has been associated with Phoenix AI and the Casablanca-based L’Atelier Digital & AI operation. The spelling varies between published accounts, so both forms are worth noting rather than treating one as definitively established.

Her creators said they used AI to produce Layli’s images, videos, and audio. The contest and some coverage described her as “100% AI-generated,” but that phrase is not a technical audit of the entire production process. Available reporting does not specify every model or disclose how prompting, writing, art direction, editing, translation, continuity work, and account management were divided between people and software.
AI-generated media does not mean no human work was involved. A virtual influencer still needs a character design, content choices, production and editing, publishing, audience development, and decisions about how the persona is presented.
What was the Miss AI competition?
Miss AI was the inaugural AI-focused beauty-pageant category under WAICA, launched in 2024 with Fanvue and its partners. It was an online creator competition: people built and submitted AI-generated personas. It was not a government-backed title, a conventional national or international human pageant, or a contest in which AI autonomously entered and won.

Calling Layli the “world’s first AI beauty queen” is accurate when understood as shorthand for the first winner of WAICA’s Miss AI competition, which organizers marketed as the world’s first AI beauty pageant. It should not be read as a universally settled claim that no earlier experiment involving artificial or virtual beauty contests ever took place. The more precise description is that Layli was the inaugural Miss AI winner.
How was the winner chosen?
Contemporary accounts describe judges assessing entries on visual appeal or beauty, realism and technical execution, and social influence or “social clout.” Reports also described the final panel as including two human judges and two AI-generated judges. That mix underlined the contest’s unusual premise, but it did not make the personas autonomous competitors: human creators designed, produced, and submitted them.
WAICA’s subsequently published rules for the competition under its later AI Woman of the Year name list beauty, realism, and social clout as judging categories. Those later terms provide context, but should not automatically be treated as the exact original 2024 rulebook. See the organizer’s published terms.

Who were the other finalists, and how many entries were there?
WAICA lists French digital persona Lalina Valina in second place and Portuguese digital persona Olivia C in third. “Represented France” and “represented Portugal” describe the characters’ contest associations, not necessarily the citizenship of a human contestant appearing in person.

The reported field size is inconsistent. Several contemporary reports put it at roughly 1,500 entries, while WAICA’s later promotional page says about 2,000 AI influencers entered. The available figures therefore support a large field, but not one uncontested exact total.
What did the winning creator receive?
Reports often say Miss AI had a $20,000 prize, but that figure refers to the overall prize pool—not $20,000 in cash paid directly to Layli. Detailed contemporary coverage describes the first-place package as:
- $5,000 in cash for the winning creator;
- an Imagine Creator mentorship package valued at about $3,000;
- Fanvue support; and
- public-relations services reported to be worth more than $5,000.
The value and form of the non-cash support are distinct from the cash award. The recipient was the human creator or winning project, not a sentient AI character. Euronews’ account of the winner and prize package and NPR-member station Ideastream’s coverage of the contest help distinguish the first-place award from the total pool.

Miss AI was both a cultural novelty and a promotion for an emerging creator economy. Because Fanvue is a creator-monetization platform and a partner in the event, the contest was not a neutral academic test of AI. It helped showcase the idea that synthetic personas can attract audiences and potentially become creator businesses. That does not establish that AI influencers generally make money or that Layli’s title proves a commercially successful model.

A synthetic face can be designed and revised without the ordinary physical constraints people face, potentially presenting an even more unattainable ideal. Judging “realism” alongside beauty may reward work that makes a constructed persona seem convincingly human.

Layli’s Moroccan identity, cultural references, and hijab are central to her character. Their presence can broaden the imagery associated with virtual influencers, but a visual design alone cannot establish authentic representation. It is fair to ask who chose those cues, what role Moroccan perspectives played, and whether audiences are clearly told that the character is synthetic.
There is also a question of who is doing the influencing. The persona appears in public, but the creator chooses what to publish, the platform shapes how it is monetized, and recommendation systems affect who sees it. The contest’s combination of human and AI judges sharpened that self-referential quality: judges assessed designed personas using criteria that included realism and popularity.
These concerns do not make the event meaningless. They do place its title in context: Miss AI was a creator competition and a snapshot of synthetic-media culture, not evidence that machines had displaced human models, artists, influencers, or pageant institutions. What happened to Miss AI?
WAICA later presented the awards under the name AI Woman of the Year for 2025, while continuing to identify Layli as the 2024 inaugural winner. The title “Miss AI” therefore refers specifically to the first competition and its branding, rather than necessarily describing the organizer’s later awards name.
The organizer’s page is the available source for that rebrand and Layli’s status as inaugural winner. It does not independently establish her current follower count, activity, earnings, sponsorships, or ongoing management. Those details should not be inferred from older follower figures or the fact that she won the contest.
What “AI beauty queen” really means
Kenza Layli won a prominent, AI-specific beauty contest as a virtual persona created and managed by people. “World’s first AI beauty queen” is best understood as a contest-specific description—not a claim that an autonomous AI entered a human pageant, or that the title carries the standing of Miss Universe, Miss World, or a national crown. The achievement belongs to the human creative work behind the character as much as to the synthetic image presented to audiences.
