Jordan “Jordy” Chandler is the boy whose 1993 allegations of sexual abuse against Michael Jackson led to a police investigation. In 2019, when the documentary Leaving Neverland revived public attention on those allegations, its director said the filmmakers tried to find him and could not. The reporting from that year does not confirm where Chandler was living, and nothing published in 2019 establishes a city, a new identity, or his own reasons for staying out of view.
Who Jordy Chandler is
Jordan Chandler was 12 when he met Michael Jackson in 1992, according to The Guardian’s January 2019 timeline of the case. He was publicly identified as “Jordan ‘Jordy’ Chandler” in coverage of the allegations, which he made to police in an August 1993 interview. Those allegations are just that: claims that were made and investigated, and that Jackson denied. No court found them true.
The 1993 case, in order
The case moved through three separate tracks: a police investigation, a civil lawsuit, and a criminal inquiry. The Guardian’s timeline records the key dates below.
| Date | What happened | Reported detail |
|---|---|---|
| August 1993 | Chandler made allegations in a police interview | A police investigation began after this interview |
| September 1993 | The Chandler family filed a civil lawsuit | The suit sought $30 million |
| January 25, 1994 | Jackson settled the civil lawsuit out of court | $22 million total, with $15 million placed in trust for Jordan Chandler until he turned 18 |
| 1994 | Two grand juries declined to indict | No criminal charges were filed |
| September 1994 | Prosecutors ended the criminal investigation | Chandler said he would not testify in court |
The dollar figures are case-specific amounts reported in the 2019 Guardian timeline. They describe this settlement only and say nothing about how common such settlements are.

How to read the outcome
Three statements about the case are accurate, and each means something different:
- The allegations were never tried. Chandler’s claims were made to police and in a civil suit, but no criminal trial was held on them and no finding was made on whether they were true.
- The civil case was settled. A settlement ends a lawsuit by agreement. It is not a verdict and not an admission of guilt.
- The criminal investigation ended without an indictment. Two grand juries did not indict, and prosecutors closed the inquiry after Chandler said he would not testify.
Why the question came back in 2019
The Sundance premiere of Leaving Neverland in January 2019, and its broadcast later that year, renewed discussion of the old allegations. The film centers on Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who made their own accusations against Jackson. It does not focus on Chandler, but its release brought renewed attention to the earlier case and to the people who had made claims against the singer.
What was known about his whereabouts in 2019
The clearest on-record statement comes from director Dan Reed. In a January 25, 2019 interview with the Los Angeles Times, he described the filmmakers’ research this way: “We looked into Brett and Macaulay and tried to find Jordy and Gavin.” That describes an attempt to locate Chandler. It does not say where he was or that the team reached him.
A March 6, 2019 YourTango article reported that Reed said Chandler was unable to be contacted. In YourTango’s account, Reed said: “Jordan’s not easily accessible. We did a bit of sleuthing to try and find him but decided to not push that any further as he appears to want to stay hidden. For now.” This is Reed’s account as relayed by a secondary entertainment outlet, not a statement from Chandler.
No Chandler quotation about his location or his privacy appears in the 2019 reporting. The later reports that name a particular city or claim a new identity for him are unsourced in the coverage available, and they should be treated as unverified.

Because the question is often asked as a “where is he now” search, it helps to test any answer against a short list of questions:
Rank #4
- Does the claim name a source who was in a position to know, such as Chandler himself or a named person with direct contact?
- Is the claim dated, and does it come from reporting from 2019 or later?
- Does it distinguish between a search for Chandler and a confirmed location?
- Does it rely on a home address, a relative’s name, or other private identifying detail? Coverage that does so should not be repeated, and such details are not established by the reporting described here.
Measured against those questions, the only sourced material from 2019 supports one conclusion: the filmmakers looked for Chandler and did not find him in a way they could confirm. The most recent reporting this article draws on dates from March 2019, so it cannot say where he is today.
