Hud, the Season 3 contestant on Claim to Fame, is the son of singer John Mellencamp. TVLine’s finale coverage, published August 28, 2024, identifies Mellencamp as Hud’s celebrity relative and describes him as Hud’s celebrity dad.
The answer and how confident we can be
The reveal was John Mellencamp. This is a finale spoiler. The identification comes from TVLine’s retrospective finale report, which was published on August 28, 2024. Earlier coverage, including Just Jared’s pre-finale piece from August 7, 2024, treated the relationship as an open question and offered guesses rather than a confirmed answer.
No direct statement from Hud or John Mellencamp confirming the relationship appears in the coverage reviewed. The answer rests on the finale reporting, so it should be read as a reported reveal rather than a quote from either person.
How the clues pointed to Mellencamp
The “Two Truths and a Lie” clues
Just Jared listed three clues about Hud’s celebrity relative: the relative was his mom, the relative was best known as a singer, and the relative had won a Grammy. According to TVLine’s later finale coverage, the “mom” clue was the lie. Once that clue is set aside, the remaining two facts fit Mellencamp, a singer whose career has included a Grammy-winning body of work, but the coverage of the clues does not walk through each award in detail.

The scarecrow clue
TVLine reports that a scarecrow appeared among the finale clues. That image referred to John Mellencamp’s album Scarecrow, which made the connection easier to follow for viewers who knew his catalogue.
The Guess Off and early theories
TVLine also reports that Adam guessed John Mellencamp during the Guess Off. Before the finale, Naomi floated a theory that Hud might be related to Cherie Currie, according to Just Jared’s August 7, 2024 coverage. That was speculation, and it was not the eventual answer.

What the 2024 premiere announced
ABC’s July 8, 2024 press release described the Season 3 premiere as introducing 11 celebrity relatives and a first challenge that put one contestant at risk of elimination. It said the show was hosted by Kevin and Franklin Jonas and that episodes would be available on Hulu the following day. That release is a dated distribution note for the 2024 season. It does not confirm where the season streams today, and readers should check current listings before watching.

- Any on-record confirmation of the relationship from Hud or John Mellencamp.
- The current streaming home of Season 3 as of 2026.
- Any relationship detail beyond the parent-child connection reported in the finale coverage.
Where the answer is needed, the 2024 finale reporting is the reference point. Anything beyond the reported reveal, including family context not covered by TVLine or Just Jared, is outside what these sources establish.
