Christopher Nolan’s wife is Emma Thomas, a film producer who has also been his main producing partner for most of his career. Biography.com reports that the two met at University College London and married in 1997. The British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound profile says Thomas has co-produced every Nolan film since Following, his first feature.
Who Emma Thomas is
Thomas works as a producer, which means she handles the business, logistics and day-to-day management of a film rather than writing or directing it. Her name appears as co-producer on Nolan’s features from Following onward, so her role is a working professional partnership, not a title added to a famous marriage. Readers who know Nolan mainly as a director should treat her as the person who helps turn his scripts into finished productions.
How they met and married
Biography.com reports that the couple met through the Film Society at University College London, and that they married in 1997. The Sight and Sound interview describes them as having met at university more than thirty years before that profile was published, so the friendship and the working relationship both began during their student years.
Her role in Nolan’s films
The BFI profile credits Thomas as co-producer on every Nolan feature since Following. The titles it names as part of his career include Memento, the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk and Tenet. That list is illustrative rather than a complete current filmography, so check a recent credits database for the latest projects.

Syncopy, the company they run
Nolan and Thomas run the production company Syncopy, according to the Associated Press. Biography.com says the company was founded in 2001. Recognition: the Oscar and the UK honors
Thomas shared the 2024 Academy Award for Best Picture as a producer of Oppenheimer. The Associated Press also reported that the UK government announced knighthood and damehood honors for Nolan and Thomas for services to film. The reporting describes the announcement itself. It does not confirm whether the formal investiture ceremonies have taken place, so any honor should be described as announced unless a later official record confirms it.
