Alex is an AI-powered quantum computer connected to time manipulation. The finale turns the season’s central mystery from a question about a hidden human character into a question about what this machine can predict and, possibly, change.
What the finale reveals about Alex
A post-finale recap in Marie Claire describes Alex as an AI-powered quantum computer. According to that account, the computer makes predictions that include events and deaths, and the season’s anomalies connect to its activity. The same recap ties the project to Sinatra’s hope of saving humanity and reports a prediction that “User X,” identified as Xavier, will reach the separate Alex bunker.
These are plot descriptions from a recap, not statements from a technical document or an official production source. Treat the prediction about Xavier as story setup rather than a confirmed outcome.

How the season made Alex sound like a person

Who Sinatra is and where ALEX fits

The season context around the reveal
Hulu Press describes season 2 as following Xavier’s search for Teri outside the bunker, while the community inside faces the aftermath of season 1 and uncovers secrets about the city’s origins. The finale’s prediction about Xavier is what links that search to Alex.
What the reveal does not settle
- The computer’s exact rules and degree of agency are not established by the available sources.
- How far its predictions or alterations of time and events reach is left for the story to resolve.
