1. Daphne Bridgerton marries Simon Basset
Book: The Duke and I
Daphne’s match is Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. Simon is also Anthony Bridgerton’s closest friend, which makes the relationship especially complicated for Daphne’s protective older brother.
Daphne and Simon begin a public courtship arrangement designed to discourage the marriage-minded mothers of the ton. Simon wants to avoid being pursued, while Daphne hopes the association will make her appear more desirable. The scheme eventually becomes a genuine romance, and Daphne and Simon marry.

2. Anthony Bridgerton marries Kate Sheffield
Book: The Viscount Who Loved Me
Kate Sheffield is Anthony’s book wife. At first, Anthony intends to marry Kate’s younger sister, Edwina, but Kate stands between Anthony and that plan—and becomes the woman he truly loves.
Their relationship begins with mutual irritation rather than easy attraction. Kate sees Anthony as arrogant and unsuitable for Edwina, while Anthony regards Kate as the principal obstacle to his intended marriage. Their arguments gradually reveal a deeper connection, leading to Anthony and Kate’s marriage.
3. Benedict Bridgerton marries Sophie Beckett
Book: An Offer from a Gentleman
Benedict marries Sophie Beckett, the daughter of an earl who has been pushed into a servant’s position by her stepmother. Sophie meets Benedict at Lady Bridgerton’s masquerade ball, giving the novel its deliberately Cinderella-like setup.

Benedict and Sophie remain the central couple of the third novel, and their story ultimately ends in marriage.
4. Colin Bridgerton marries Penelope Featherington
Book: Romancing Mister Bridgerton
Penelope Featherington is Colin’s wife. Penelope has been in love with her best friend’s brother for years, while Colin initially thinks of her mainly as a longtime family friend. After returning from his travels, he begins to see her differently.
The novel’s romance also intersects with Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown. That identity is a particularly important distinction between the book and the television adaptation’s broader storyline. In Quinn’s novel, Colin and Penelope are the endgame couple, and they marry.
5. Eloise Bridgerton marries Sir Phillip Crane
Book: To Sir Phillip, With Love
Eloise’s husband is Sir Phillip Crane. Their courtship begins unusually: Phillip proposes by letter before he and Eloise have formally met.
Eloise travels to meet him, expecting one sort of relationship and finding a much more complicated situation. The pair initially seem mismatched, but their correspondence and eventual in-person relationship develop into love and marriage. Sir Phillip is the romantic hero of Eloise’s book, not a temporary detour in her story.
6. Francesca Bridgerton marries Michael Stirling
Book: When He Was Wicked
Francesca marries Michael Stirling. Michael first falls in love with Francesca while she is engaged to his cousin, creating one of the series’ most emotionally complicated premises.
After Michael becomes the earl and Francesca is widowed, their existing friendship develops into the novel’s central romance. Michael’s earlier love for Francesca shapes the story, but he is ultimately her partner and husband.
7. Hyacinth Bridgerton marries Gareth St. Clair
Book: It’s In His Kiss
Gareth St. Clair is Hyacinth’s match. Gareth inherits an old family diary written in Italian, a language he cannot read, and Hyacinth offers to translate it.

8. Gregory Bridgerton marries Lucy Abernathy
Book: On the Way to the Wedding
The final sibling romance pairs Gregory Bridgerton with Lucy Abernathy, formally Lady Lucinda Abernathy. Gregory initially believes he is in love with Hermione Watson, but he eventually recognizes Lucy as his true match.
There is a major obstacle: Lucy is already engaged. Gregory’s effort to understand his feelings and reach the woman he truly loves drives the concluding novel in the main series. Gregory and Lucy marry, completing the eight-book sequence.
What happens to the Bridgertons after the weddings?
Julia Quinn later added second epilogues because readers wanted to see what happened to the characters after their original novels ended. These follow-up stories were collected in The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After.

The collection is supplementary rather than a ninth sibling romance. It includes post-novel updates for the main characters and Violet in Bloom, a bonus novella about the Bridgerton siblings’ mother, Violet. Read it after the eight novels if you want additional glimpses of the couples’ married lives.

This answer is about Julia Quinn’s books. The television series is an adaptation inspired by those novels, but it can change character details, timelines, identities, and plot structure.
The safest way to verify a book marriage is to use the individual novel for that sibling. The book pairings are:
- Daphne and Simon
- Anthony and Kate
- Benedict and Sophie
- Colin and Penelope
- Eloise and Phillip
- Francesca and Michael
- Hyacinth and Gareth
- Gregory and Lucy
In particular, viewers coming from the show should not assume that a television storyline, romantic emphasis, or character identity will unfold in exactly the same way in the corresponding book.

Best reading order for the Bridgerton romances
Read the eight sibling novels in numerical order:
- The Duke and I — Daphne and Simon
- The Viscount Who Loved Me — Anthony and Kate
- An Offer from a Gentleman — Benedict and Sophie
- Romancing Mister Bridgerton — Colin and Penelope
- To Sir Phillip, With Love — Eloise and Phillip
- When He Was Wicked — Francesca and Michael
- It’s In His Kiss — Hyacinth and Gareth
- On the Way to the Wedding — Gregory and Lucy
After those eight, read The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After for the second epilogues and Violet’s bonus story. The Rokesby novels are prequels, while Queen Charlotte and the Lady Whistledown-related books are connected works rather than substitutes for the eight main sibling romances.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every Bridgerton sibling get married in the books?
Yes. All eight Bridgerton siblings have a central romance and an endgame marriage in Julia Quinn’s original series.
Who does Eloise marry in the Bridgerton books?
Eloise marries Sir Phillip Crane in To Sir Phillip, With Love, the fifth Bridgerton novel.
Who does Francesca marry in the books?
Francesca marries Michael Stirling in When He Was Wicked, the sixth novel.
Is there a ninth Bridgerton sibling romance?
No. The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After is a collection of second epilogues and includes the bonus novella Violet in Bloom; it is not a ninth sibling novel.
Should I read the books in the same order as the Netflix seasons?
For the sibling romances, read Quinn’s eight novels in publication order. The television adaptation changes some details and story structures, so its season order should not be treated as a substitute for the book order.
The Bottom Line
In Julia Quinn’s books, the eight Bridgerton marriages are: Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, Benedict and Sophie, Colin and Penelope, Eloise and Sir Phillip, Francesca and Michael, Hyacinth and Gareth, and Gregory and Lucy. Read the eight novels in order, then continue with The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After for their second epilogues.
