Taylor Frankie Paul’s two most publicly reported relationships before her planned Bachelorette season are her marriage to Tate Paul and her later relationship with Dakota Mortensen. Tate is her ex-husband and the father of their two children. Mortensen is her later partner and the father of her third child. Reporting describes the Mortensen relationship as on and off, so the dates below are best read as reported milestones rather than a continuous, tidy timeline.
The two relationships at a glance
| Partner | Relationship | Reported timing | Children with Taylor | Main source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tate Paul | Marriage (ex-husband) | Married in 2016; married until 2022 (year-level reporting; exact divorce date not stated) | Indy and Ocean | Us Weekly |
| Dakota Mortensen | Later relationship, described as on and off | Began dating in summer 2022; made it official that September 2022 | One son (identified by Biography.com as Mortensen’s child) | Biography.com; other coverage for the on-and-off description |
Tate Paul: the marriage
Tate Paul is the first name readers encounter in any account of Taylor’s history, and he is the one relationship in this group with a formal legal bond. Us Weekly reports that the two married in 2016 and remained married until 2022. The couple’s children, Indy and Ocean, are the two children Taylor has with him. Coverage available for this article gives the marriage in years rather than exact days, so the separation timing should be read at that level of precision.

The end of the marriage is tied in public reporting to a soft-swinging controversy. Vanity Fair’s profile of Taylor connects that episode to the personal history she later discussed publicly. That profile is a magazine account of a public controversy, not a neutral or complete record of what happened inside the marriage, and it should be read as one reporter’s framing.
Dakota Mortensen: the later relationship
Dakota Mortensen is the partner who appears after the marriage. Biography.com places the start of their relationship in summer 2022 and says they made it official that September. Biography.com also identifies him as the father of Taylor’s son, her third child. Other coverage describes the relationship as on and off, which means a single start date does not capture the full course of it.

#1 Best Overall
Because the relationship’s public record is shorter and more fluid than the marriage, most of what is reported about Mortensen concerns the relationship itself and its family consequences rather than a documented history of earlier partnerships. Readers should not assume that a named relationship is a settled one unless the reporting says so.
Why the dates are presented with caution
- Years, not days, for the marriage. The 2016 wedding and 2022 end date come from year-level reporting. A more precise separation or divorce date is not established in the sources reviewed.
- On-and-off status. The start of the Mortensen relationship in summer 2022 and its September 2022 announcement are reported milestones. They do not establish a continuous relationship from that point forward.
- Family details. The names of the children and their parentage are stated in the cited reporting. Anything beyond those facts, including custody arrangements, is not established here.
The Bachelorette context and what remains unresolved
Taylor’s planned season of The Bachelorette is the reason this history has drawn wider attention. The Associated Press reported on March 19, 2026, that ABC pulled the season before its scheduled March 2026 premiere. According to AP’s account, ABC cited the resurfacing of video from a 2023 incident as the reason for its decision. AP also noted a separate, current investigation involving Taylor and Mortensen.
Those two points are distinct, and they should stay distinct in any reading of the story:
- ABC’s decision is a broadcaster’s stated rationale, reported by AP on March 19, 2026. It is not a court finding about any person’s conduct.
- The investigation is described by AP as ongoing. It is an allegation-stage matter, not an adjudicated outcome.
- Custody and legal status as of October 8, 2026, could not be confirmed from the reporting reviewed. Protective orders, court filings, and any later decision about the season’s release would need to be checked against current primary sources before being stated as fact.
For the question of who Taylor’s exes are, the Tate Paul marriage and the Dakota Mortensen relationship are the answer. The Bachelorette episode explains why that history became a news story, but it does not change who the partners were.

How to read the public record
Most of what is publicly known about Taylor’s relationships comes from celebrity and entertainment coverage, which means the record is shaped by what has been reported, not by a court or official archive. Where a claim involves a named person and a legal or personal allegation, the safest approach is to attribute it to the outlet and date, and to separate what the outlet reports from what it has confirmed.
That approach matters most in this story. The marriage timeline is reported at year level, the Mortensen relationship is described as on and off, and the broadcaster’s decision, the investigation, and any custody or legal developments are each separate facts with separate sources and dates.
