Growing up as their daughter
The clearest first-person account of her childhood comes from Jamie Lee Curtis’s 1981 interview, excerpted by the Golden Globes. She described her parents as supportive of whatever work she chose: “They said, ‘Do what you want to do, but do it well.’ Any field was fine with them, as long as you did it as well as you could.”

She also described the pressure that came with the name. “It was very tough for me to be somebody’s daughter for a long time.” In the same interview she said her childhood was ordinary: “My life was straight out normal. I went to school, I had friends, we played, we did everything that a kid does.”
These are Curtis’s own recollections, given at one point in her career. They do not amount to a full independent account of family life, and a single interview should not be read as a complete picture of either parent.
Her parents’ influence on her career
In a 2023 Associated Press report, Curtis credited her parents after winning the Academy Award for best supporting actress for Everything Everywhere All at Once: “I am a product of them. I am a proud product of them. I know they would be incredibly proud of me.”
Her early career also connected to her mother’s most famous film. In a CBS News 60 Minutes transcript, Curtis said she believed her mother’s role in Psycho could help attract publicity for Halloween. She also said her auditions for that film got her to the final two. The sources give that account in her own words, and it shows that the family name helped her career in some ways while she still had to win the role on her own merits.
