Whitney Scott Mathers is the name older coverage used for Eminem’s adopted child, who publicly announced in August 2021 that they go by Stevie. The reporting that can be confirmed dates from 2020 and 2021. It establishes the family relationship and that 2021 announcement, but it does not document Stevie’s life today, so anything beyond those points should be treated as unconfirmed.
Who is Whitney Scott Mathers?
Eminem is the professional name of Marshall Mathers. Whitney Scott Mathers is the birth name used in older articles for the person now publicly known as Stevie. In March 2020, ABC News reported that Eminem had two adopted daughters, Alaina Marie Mathers and Whitney Scott Mathers. The same report identified Whitney as the daughter of Kim Mathers (Kim Scott) with a former partner. ABC’s headline also refers to Eminem’s daughter Hailie, who is not part of the adoption story.

Biological or adoptive? What the reporting says
Readers often ask whether Stevie is Eminem’s biological daughter. The reporting available describes two separate relationships, and they should not be merged.
| Relationship | What the reporting says | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Biological parent | Kim Scott (Kim Mathers) is described as Stevie’s mother, with a former partner of hers, not Eminem | ABC News, March 31, 2020 |
| Adoptive parent | Eminem is described as having legally adopted Stevie in 2005 after reconciling with Kim Scott | The Independent, August 13, 2021 |
| Birth timing | Kim gave birth about six months after divorcing Eminem in 2001 | The Independent, August 13, 2021. Sources differ on family details, so no more precise chronology is established here. |
The 2021 name and pronoun announcement
In August 2021, Stevie announced their name in a TikTok video, according to The Independent’s August 13, 2021 report. The same report says the post listed the pronouns “they / she / he” and the hashtags “genderfluid” and “bi.” These are descriptions of a 2021 public post, not verified statements about how Stevie identifies today.

What the post itself said
- The Independent reported that another video traced Stevie’s changing presentation and carried the caption “all pronouns.”
- Hollywood Life, in a contemporaneous August 13, 2021 report, quoted a caption from the transformation video: “forever growing and changing.” Its headline described Stevie as 19 at the time.
- The Independent also reported Stevie’s on-screen text: “Watch me become more comfortable with myself.” That line is attributed to the TikTok video as quoted by The Independent.
Why headlines differ
The Independent’s headline described Stevie as coming out as non-binary. That is the outlet’s framing, and it is not the label used in the post’s own hashtags. Quote the post’s wording when describing what Stevie said in 2021, and attribute the headline’s term to the outlet.
Which name and pronouns to use
For current references, the following conventions keep the article accurate to what is actually documented.

- Use “Stevie” as the current name. Introduce it once with the older name, as in “Stevie, reported in older coverage as Whitney Scott Mathers.”
- This article uses they/them, the first pronoun listed in the 2021 post. That is a consistency default, not a verified current statement of pronouns.
- Do not assume a later name or pronoun change unless a direct, attributable statement from Stevie supports it.
- Keep 2020 and 2021 ages as ages from those publication dates. They are not current ages.
What “now” can and cannot establish
The sources available for this article do not include a recent, reliably attributable statement from Stevie about their current public activity, work, or whereabouts. Eminem’s official website covers his music and does not address Stevie’s life. The absence of newer coverage does not establish that Stevie is inactive, has left social media, or is avoiding public life. For that reason, this article does not speculate about where Stevie lives, studies, works, or who they spend time with. The verified picture is the family relationship and the 2021 announcement.
Eminem’s own remarks about his children
In a 2020 appearance on the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast, as reported by ABC News, Eminem described a niece he had helped raise, “pretty much like a daughter to me,” who was 26, and a younger child who was 17 at the time of the interview. He also said, as ABC quoted him: “So when I think about my accomplishments, that’s probably the thing that I’m the most proud of, you know … being able to raise kids.” These are ABC’s quotations from the podcast. They have not been checked against a full transcript, and the ages refer to March 2020.

Eminem’s music, for context only
Eminem’s official website lists the album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) in its artist catalog and presents the official video for “Temporary” with Skylar Grey, posted October 3, 2024, on its Videos page, which was accessed October 8, 2026. Those pages are about Eminem’s work. They do not contain updates about Stevie.
