How Javier connects to Joel and Tommy
Javier is the father of Joel and Tommy, the two brothers at the center of the series. Pedro Pascal plays Joel and Gabriel Luna plays Tommy, as HBO announced in its official cast release of November 2, 2022, ahead of the series premiere in January 2023. That makes Javier the shared father of the two characters, not a present-day figure in Joel’s survivor community.
For viewers, the reveal is a piece of family history. It adds backstory to Joel’s and Tommy’s relationship without changing the main timeline of the show’s present-day story.
