Whitney Purvis said her son, Weston Gosa Jr., had Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency from birth, was later diagnosed with Addison’s disease, and then developed diabetes. In a PEOPLE interview published June 6, 2025, she also described his difficulty accepting diabetes and his dislike of needles. These are Purvis’s account of her son’s health, not details established by medical records.
What health issues did Whitney Purvis say her son had?
In the interview republished by AOL, Purvis described three conditions in Weston’s health history: Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, Addison’s disease, and diabetes. She said he was born with Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, received an Addison’s disease diagnosis when he was older, and later developed diabetes. Read the PEOPLE interview as republished by AOL.
Purvis characterized the burden of his health problems this way: “He had a lot of medical problems, more than what a kid should go through.” The report presents her description; it does not include medical records or a separate medical expert’s account.
What did she say about his diabetes?
Purvis said Weston found diabetes difficult to accept and disliked needles. Her comments describe his personal response to the condition, not a clinical assessment of his treatment or care.

Does the interview explain what caused his death?
No. Purvis announced Weston’s death on June 2, 2025, according to the PEOPLE interview report, but that interview does not establish a cause of death.
In separate reporting published June 18, 2025, The Daily Beast said Weston’s father told TMZ that the cause of death had been ruled natural causes. That is the father’s statement as relayed by the outlet; the report did not provide an official record. The Daily Beast also covered Purvis’s claims about insurance and a glucose monitor as allegations. It said it was unclear whether Weston was wearing a monitor when he died and that his father had not addressed those allegations at the time of publication. The Daily Beast’s report.
