It depends on what you are paying for. For eligible Google Play checkouts in India, options include UPI, Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards, and Google Play balance; RuPay is listed for one-time purchases only. YouTube Premium, channel memberships, and live-stream Super Chats or Stickers use different billing flows, so a method accepted by Google Play may not appear for every YouTube purchase.
First, identify the YouTube purchase
A 24/7 live stream does not have its own universal payment method. The payment route depends on the product you choose while watching:
- YouTube Premium or Music: a subscription, billed through the checkout shown for your plan.
- Channel membership: a creator-support purchase with its own membership billing and India-specific recurring-payment caveats.
- Super Chat or Super Sticker: a one-time purchase made in live chat, if the creator and stream offer the feature.
Super Chat and Super Stickers are available in India, but not every 24/7 stream enables them. The creator’s eligibility and settings matter. YouTube says some new purchases made in the Android app are billed through Google Play; in those cases, the Play checkout determines which payment methods are available. These are Google Play India options, not a promise that every method will appear in every YouTube checkout. Device, account, product, billing platform, bank support, and current payment rules can affect the available choices. Check the payment options displayed in the checkout you are actually using. Google’s India accepted-payment-methods page lists the Play options and notes that “You can make recurring payments with UPI Autopay through a mandate.”

How recurring YouTube payments work in India
Recurring payments are subject to India’s RBI e-mandate requirements, and a method that works for a one-time purchase may not work for an automatically billed plan. Google says new YouTube Premium or Music subscribers whose card does not support automatic payments may be prompted to choose a prepaid plan instead. Follow the plan and methods shown in your own account; the options can vary with the billing route and bank support.
Premium and Music
If your card cannot support the required automatic billing, a prepaid plan may be offered as an alternative. UPI AutoPay may support recurring payments for eligible subscriptions when it appears as an option and you approve the mandate. A prepaid plan and an automatically renewing subscription are not the same billing arrangement, so check the renewal terms shown before paying.

Channel memberships
Google’s India guidance currently says recurring channel-membership plans are temporarily turned off and directs viewers to prepaid plans. Separately, YouTube’s membership billing help describes monthly auto-billing for active memberships and says Indian members may need to verify or re-enter payment details under RBI e-mandate rules; bank support varies. These statements concern different account and checkout circumstances, so rely on the current options displayed for the membership in your account rather than assuming every membership has the same billing setup. Super Chats and Super Stickers
These are live-chat purchases rather than subscriptions. When a new Android-app purchase is processed by Google Play, its available India payment methods apply; exact options can still depend on the purchase and account. If a method you expect is missing, check whether the checkout is through Google Play or another billing route before assuming the method is unsupported everywhere.

Choose the method by payment type
- For a one-time purchase: use a method shown in that checkout. Google Play lists Visa and Mastercard cards, RuPay for one-time purchases, UPI, and Play balance in India.
- For recurring billing: look for UPI AutoPay or a card that supports automatic payments, and confirm the mandate or renewal terms. RuPay is limited to one-time Play purchases in Google’s listed methods.
- If recurring billing is unavailable: check whether YouTube offers a prepaid plan for that product and account.
- If paying for a live-chat feature: confirm the stream offers Super Chat or Stickers and follow its displayed checkout, especially when purchasing in the Android app.
