Google Cloud Live Stream API accepts SRT input. It can receive an SRT contribution feed and distribute a separate output to a remote endpoint using RTMP. YouTube’s documented direct ingest protocols are RTMP, RTMPS, HLS and DASH—not SRT—so an SRT feed ordinarily needs a cloud relay or another compatible intermediary before it reaches YouTube.
How SRT reaches YouTube through Google Cloud
There are two protocol hops, and they should not be confused:
- Contribution: An encoder or transcoder that supports SRT sends the feed to a Google Cloud Live Stream API input configured for SRT.
- Distribution: Google Cloud sends the service output to YouTube using a protocol YouTube accepts, such as RTMP. Google Cloud’s documentation describes RTMP remote distribution using FLV; its SRT remote distribution option uses MPEG-TS.
This is a relay workflow, not direct SRT ingest by YouTube. Confirm the current input endpoint configuration in Google Cloud and the ingest protocol available for the YouTube stream key before deployment, since service settings and supported protocols can change.
What each service supports
| Service or hop | Documented protocol support | What it means for your workflow |
|---|---|---|
| Google Cloud Live Stream API input | SRT and RTMP input | Can accept an SRT contribution feed. The sending encoder or transcoder must support SRT. |
| Google Cloud Live Stream API output | HLS or DASH outputs; remote distribution using SRT or RTMP | For a YouTube destination, RTMP distribution aligns with YouTube’s documented RTMP-family ingest. Google specifies FLV for RTMP remote distribution. |
| YouTube Live direct ingest | RTMP, RTMPS, HLS and DASH | SRT is not listed among YouTube’s documented third-party ingest protocols. |
These protocol descriptions come from Google Cloud Live Stream API and Google/YouTube’s official live-streaming documentation. They establish protocol compatibility, but do not by themselves guarantee that a particular configuration, codec, or endpoint will work without checking the current service settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the YouTube output protocol
RTMPS for typical low-latency streams
YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary low-latency live streams. It is the most straightforward documented choice for a Google Cloud relay when the selected YouTube endpoint supports it. Google Cloud’s remote-distribution documentation describes RTMP; verify whether your configured endpoint and stream key call for RTMP or RTMPS.
HLS when HDR or codec needs call for it
YouTube documents HLS as an option for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP. HLS sends video in segments, so it generally has higher latency than RTMP-family ingest. DASH is also among YouTube’s documented ingest protocols and is segment-based; the specific output and endpoint must be compatible across both services.

When SRT is useful—and when it is not
Google Cloud recommends SRT over RTMP for its input endpoint when possible, citing packet-drop recovery, forward error correction, support for multiple audio elementary streams, and higher bandwidth. Those are reasons to consider SRT on the contribution leg, especially when the source-to-cloud connection is less reliable. They do not mean YouTube accepts SRT directly.
- Use SRT into Google Cloud when your contribution encoder supports SRT and you want the cloud service to receive that feed.
- Use a supported YouTube ingest protocol downstream when distributing from the cloud to YouTube; RTMP-family ingest is the typical low-latency route.
- Consider HLS if the codec or HDR requirement makes it the appropriate YouTube ingest option, allowing for higher segment-related latency.
- Check both ends for protocol, container or transport expectations and stream-key configuration. A compatible input does not prove the output endpoint is configured correctly.
What to check before you configure the relay
- Confirm source capability. Make sure the encoder or transcoder can send SRT and can be configured for the Google Cloud input endpoint.
- Select the cloud input protocol. Configure the Live Stream API input for SRT and use the endpoint details provided by Google Cloud.
- Choose a downstream protocol. For typical low-latency YouTube streaming, start by checking RTMPS availability and the relevant endpoint details. If a codec or HDR requirement calls for HLS, account for its higher segment-based latency.
- Match the YouTube destination. Use the protocol and endpoint supported by the selected YouTube stream key; do not send SRT directly to YouTube on the assumption that Cloud SRT input makes it a YouTube ingest protocol.
- Validate the full path. Check that the source is reaching Google Cloud and that the configured remote distribution reaches the intended YouTube live event. Diagnose the contribution and distribution hops separately.
Troubleshooting protocol mismatches
- The encoder cannot connect to the cloud input: Verify that the encoder supports SRT and that its SRT settings match the Google Cloud input endpoint. A service accepting SRT does not make an RTMP-only encoder SRT-capable.
- The cloud receives the feed but YouTube does not: Check the remote distribution protocol and destination details separately from the SRT input. YouTube’s documented direct ingest list does not include SRT.
- The stream works but latency is higher than expected: Check whether the YouTube output uses HLS or DASH. Segment-based delivery generally has higher latency than RTMP-family ingest.
- The expected codec or HDR format is unavailable over RTMP: Check YouTube’s HLS ingest requirements and whether HLS is suitable for the workflow; its segment-based delivery can increase latency.
- A configuration that worked before stops working: Re-check current Google Cloud input settings and the ingest protocol offered for the YouTube stream key. Protocol support and service configurations can change.
For a different job: keep uploaded videos live on YouTube
If you need to loop uploaded recordings into a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than relay a live SRT contribution feed, StreamNeo is a different kind of service. It plays uploaded videos; it is not an SRT contribution relay and does not go live from a camera. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
