Its on-screen town, Havenport, is fictional—not a real town with a single filming address. Several named Southport locations and additional Wilmington sites helped create the series’ coastal setting.
Where was The Waterfront filmed?
Netflix names Wilmington and Southport, North Carolina, as the production locations. Netflix’s production listing and its Tudum location guide both place filming around those two cities.

The show’s Havenport is fictional. So while its story is set in North Carolina, there is no real Havenport address to visit.
Which Southport locations appear in the series?
Official North Carolina tourism sources connect several Southport waterfront spots with the show. The state’s film-location guide names Fishy Fishy Cafe and Morningstar Marinas Southport as settings for the Buckley seafood business. Explore Southport’s film listing also names the Southport Yacht Basin as a 2025 The Waterfront location.

Local reporting by The News & Observer provides more specific scene mapping: it identifies Fishy Fishy Cafe at 106 Yacht Basin Drive, where the outdoor patio serves as the fictional Buckley Crab Shack, and Morningstar Marinas at 606 W. West Street as a recurring location. These are reported scene locations, not a Netflix-issued master list.
What Wilmington locations were used?
The News & Observer also identifies the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Suites on Market, The Cotton Exchange and Thalian Hall among the places used for scenes. Its reporting offers a useful city-by-city guide, but it should not be read as a complete, officially confirmed inventory of every location or episode.
Businesses may change their hours, operations or access policies. Check with a venue before planning a visit, and remember that a filming location may be private or unavailable even if it appears in the series.

Havenport is fictional, but it draws on North Carolina coastal influences. In an interview with TIME, creator Kevin Williamson said Havenport shares DNA with Oriental, the town where he grew up. The production team visited Oriental to rent real fishing boats for stunt use; filming, however, took place around Wilmington and Southport. Oriental is therefore part of the show’s inspiration and boat-sourcing story, not a replacement for Netflix’s stated filming locations.

Williamson told Netflix Tudum, “I love North Carolina,” and, “I would shoot everything here if I could.” In the TIME interview, he described himself as a “Carolina boy” and said Southport looks very much like where he grew up.
