In the United States, How to Train Your Dragon (2025) is currently listed for streaming on Netflix and Peacock. It is also available through digital rental or purchase, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. This guide separates the 2025 live-action remake from the 2010 animated original and the rest of the animated franchise, since similarly titled listings can otherwise be confusing.

Is How to Train Your Dragon (2025) still in theaters?
Not as part of a confirmed ordinary nationwide theatrical run. The live-action film opened in U.S. theaters on June 13, 2025. AMC’s current movie page labels it “Rent or Buy on Demand,” while its showtimes page requires viewers to select a theater rather than showing a current national schedule.

Fandango still maintains a title page for the film, but that page primarily provides movie information and historical ticket context rather than confirming current nationwide showtimes. Regal previously listed the movie for its Summer Movie Express program from July 6 through July 9, 2026; those dates had already passed by the August 11, 2026 research date.
If you want to see the movie on a large screen, search your ZIP code directly on Fandango, AMC, Regal, Cinemark, or the website of an independent cinema. Look especially for terms such as “special engagement,” “re-release,” “family film,” and “festival screening.” Do not assume that a title page means tickets are currently available.
Check How to Train Your Dragon showtimes only after entering a location and confirming that a specific theater is actually selling tickets.

How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
The original animated movie is currently confirmed on Netflix’s franchise guide and is also listed in Peacock’s family and franchise programming. A current U.S. availability listing additionally identifies Amazon Video as a route to stream, rent, or buy the title. Because retailer offers are title-specific, verify the individual movie page before assuming that a rental or purchase option applies.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019)
The third animated movie is available as part of Universal’s digital and physical collection options. Do not assume that every animated entry is included on every subscription service at the same time; search for The Hidden World by its full title.
Animated television spin-offs
The broader franchise includes several television series:
- Dragons: Race to the Edge: Netflix’s official guide lists six seasons.
- Dragons: Riders of Berk: listed in Peacock’s current franchise programming.
- Dragons: The Nine Realms: listed in Peacock’s franchise guide.
- Dragons Rescue Riders: Heroes of the Sky: also listed in Peacock’s family programming.
These shows are not interchangeable with the three-film animated story. Availability for individual seasons and specials can change independently.

The 2025 film is not a fourth chapter in the animated continuity. It reimagines the story introduced in the 2010 movie, so watching it after the trilogy lets you compare the adaptation without treating it as a continuation.

Which viewing option is best?
| Your goal | Best-supported option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Watch the 2025 film with an existing subscription | Netflix or Peacock | Both services currently list the live-action movie in the U.S. |
| Watch the original animated film | Netflix, Peacock, or a title-specific digital listing | Netflix confirms the original; Peacock and Amazon Video may list it depending on the current offer. |
| Watch the animated trilogy in sequence | Digital purchase or a Universal collection | Ownership avoids relying on three separate, changing subscription listings. |
| Avoid a monthly subscription | Digital rental or purchase | Universal confirmed digital availability from July 15, 2025. |
| Keep a collector’s copy | 4K Ultra HD or Blu-ray | The 2025 release includes multiple physical formats and bonus material. |
| Find a theatrical screening | Local Fandango, theater, or independent-cinema search | No regular nationwide run is currently confirmed, but special engagements can be local. |
Two-film and trilogy collections
Universal’s official 2-Movie Collection combines the 2010 animated film with the 2025 live-action movie. It is listed in digital, 4K Ultra HD + Digital, Blu-ray + Digital, and DVD editions.
Universal also lists a 3-Movie Collection containing the animated trilogy. This is the more appropriate purchase for viewers who want Hiccup and Toothless’s complete animated story rather than a comparison between the animated original and its live-action reimagining.
Before purchasing, check whether the listing is for the two-film or three-film set, whether digital codes are included, and which regional format is being sold. Availability and pricing can vary by retailer.
Why listings may disagree
- The title is ambiguous: Search results may mix the 2010 animated movie, 2025 remake, sequels, and television shows.
- Streaming rights rotate: A service may list a movie today and remove it later, or show different results for different U.S. accounts.
- Franchise pages are broader than individual titles: A page saying that the franchise is available does not prove that every film or special is included.
- Theatrical pages can remain online after a run ends: A Fandango or theater page is not proof of current showtimes until it displays a location, date, and ticket option.
- Retail listings differ: Rental, purchase, HD, 4K, disc, and digital-code versions may be separate products.
When searching, always include the year—How to Train Your Dragon (2010) or How to Train Your Dragon (2025)—and verify the runtime, cast, poster, and release year before selecting a result.
