Fire and Ash joined Disney+ on June 24, 2026. Watch them in release order: Avatar, The Way of Water, then Fire and Ash.
This guide is about Cameron’s Pandora movies—not Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Last Airbender film, or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is a video game. Availability and prices below are for the U.S. and can change by country, retailer, plan, and date.
The quickest answer: use Disney+
Disney+ is currently the simplest one-subscription option for watching every released Avatar movie in the U.S. Its catalog pages list Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Avatar: Fire and Ash as movies. Disney’s June 2026 release announcement confirms that the third film arrived on the service on June 24, 2026.
Disney+ title pages currently display a starting price of $11.99 per month, but plan prices, taxes, promotions, and third-party billing can differ. Disney also says it does not currently offer a standard free trial. If you only want to marathon the trilogy, compare the current monthly price with three separate rentals, check whether you already receive Disney+ through a bundle or other benefit, and cancel before the next billing date if you do not intend to continue.

Avatar (2009)
James Cameron’s original film is available to stream with a U.S. Disney+ subscription. It is also currently listed on Hulu’s own movie page.

If you do not want a subscription, current U.S. listings show Avatar for rental or purchase through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home. JustWatch showed $3.99 rental offers and purchase prices including $9.99 and $19.99 at different retailers or for different editions. Those are retailer snapshots, so check the final checkout price and the included format before paying.
Catalog runtimes generally place the film at approximately 2 hours 42–43 minutes. The exact listing may vary slightly by service or edition.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
The second film is available on Disney+ in the U.S. It continues Jake Sully and Neytiri’s story and should be watched after the original.

Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home currently offer rental or purchase listings. At the time checked, JustWatch showed rental offers around $3.99 and a purchase listing around $9.99. A digital purchase can be useful for repeat viewing, but it is access tied to the retailer account and platform terms—not the same thing as owning a physical disc.

Collectors should also distinguish the ordinary digital movie listing from The Way of Water Collector’s Edition. The latter includes deleted scenes and extended-cut bonus material, according to its Movies Anywhere listing; that does not mean it is a separate extended feature-film cut automatically included with the Disney+ version.
Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025)
Fire and Ash is the third released film and began streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. on June 24, 2026. That date replaces older guides that described the film as theatrical-only or said its home-release date was unknown.
The film is also listed for rental or purchase through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home. PlayPilot additionally lists YouTube Movies. JustWatch showed a $5.99 rental offer when checked, but prices and availability can change quickly, especially for a newer release.
Runtime metadata differs slightly between services: PlayPilot lists approximately 3 hours 18 minutes, while Disney+ displays approximately 3 hours 20 minutes. That difference is catalog metadata, credits, or rounding; it is not evidence that one service is necessarily showing a different cut.

Do Hulu subscribers get all three?
Disney+ is the reliable one-service answer; Hulu should be treated as a conditional alternative. The original Avatar is currently listed on Hulu. Hulu describes The Way of Water as available through eligible Disney+/Hulu bundle access, and Disney explains how eligible Hulu or bundle subscribers can link their Hulu profile to Disney+ through Hulu on Disney+.

That does not establish Hulu as a guaranteed standalone home for the complete trilogy. Rights, bundle eligibility, and the way titles appear can differ by film and account. If the goal is to watch all three without moving between services, search Disney+ directly.
Can you watch the movies for free?
As of the latest U.S. availability checks, no free legal streaming option was listed for Avatar, The Way of Water, or Fire and Ash. A Disney+ subscription is not free, even if someone receives it through a bundle, promotion, wireless plan, or another benefit they already pay for.
Do not rely on unofficial free-movie sites or deceptive trial claims. If you are trying to minimize the cost, compare one month of Disney+ with the current total for individual rentals and verify Disney’s billing and cancellation terms.
Best viewing order
- Avatar (2009)
- Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
- Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025)
Release order is also the story order. The films follow Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family across Pandora, so there is no practical advantage to watching them out of sequence. The official Avatar, The Way of Water, and Fire and Ash pages provide the franchise’s film details.
For marathon planning, catalog runtimes are approximately:
- Avatar: 2 hours 42–43 minutes
- The Way of Water: 3 hours 12–15 minutes
- Fire and Ash: 3 hours 18–20 minutes
Allow roughly 9 hours 15–30 minutes for all three, before meals and other breaks. Runtime displays can vary slightly between services.

Choose Disney+ for the complete released series
Disney+ is best if you want all three films in one catalog, already subscribe, or prefer not to make three separate rental transactions. The trade-offs are the active subscription, changing catalog rights and plan prices, and the fact that the standard streaming listing does not automatically promise every collector extra or premium-format version.

Rent one film if you only want a single viewing
Digital rental is usually the most direct choice when you want one movie without starting a monthly subscription. It can also be useful if a title temporarily leaves a subscription service. Rental windows, playback rules, subtitles, audio options, bonus material, and prices differ by store, so read the listing carefully.
Buy digitally for convenient repeat access
A digital purchase makes more sense than repeated rentals if you expect to rewatch a film. Check whether the listing includes 4K where supported and whether it contains the extras you want. Digital purchase access remains dependent on the retailer account and its platform terms; it is not identical to physical ownership.
Buy physical media for format control and extras
Physical editions are the strongest choice for viewers who want a copy independent of streaming licensing, 4K UHD or Blu-ray playback, a particular collector edition, deleted scenes, commentaries, behind-the-scenes material, or 3D where offered. Editions can include separate standard, steelbook, 3D, 4K, and collection releases, and availability differs by country. Confirm the exact disc format and included features before ordering, and remember that compatible hardware is required.
What versions, cuts, 4K, HDR, and 3D are available?
Disney+ is convenient, but its public catalog pages list the standard film titles and runtimes rather than advertising a selector for theatrical, Special Edition, or Collector’s Extended versions. Do not assume that the Disney+ stream is automatically the extended edition or that it includes deleted scenes, commentary tracks, or physical-media extras.
Format availability is equally specific. Apple announced The Way of Water among the 3D movies available on Apple Vision Pro and explained that eligible 3D movie editions may be accessible through the Apple TV app or supported streaming apps, depending on the title and device. That does not mean every Avatar film is available in 3D on every television, app, or digital store. For 3D, HDR, 4K, high-frame-rate playback, or a particular audio format, check the exact title listing and confirm that your device and app support it. See Apple’s Vision Pro entertainment announcement for the supported 3D context.

There are no released Avatar 4 or Avatar 5 movies to stream, rent, or buy. They should not be counted among the three currently watchable films.
- Avatar 4: currently announced target date of December 21, 2029.
- Avatar 5: currently announced target date of December 19, 2031.
Those are planned dates, not guarantees. Recent reporting says the schedule for the fourth film remains unsettled, and James Cameron has indicated that he may not direct both future installments. Follow updates from reliable sources such as the Associated Press and GamesRadar rather than treating either date as a confirmed home-viewing release.

Bonus viewing: documentaries and featurettes
Documentaries and making-of material are useful additions for fans, but they are not feature films in the released Avatar movie count. Disney’s catch-up guide for Fire and Ash identifies additional franchise viewing, including:
- Building the World of Pandora: a short featurette listed on Disney+.
- Fire And Water: Making The Avatar Films: a behind-the-scenes documentary available through Disney+.
- Avatar: The Deep Dive — A Special Edition of 20/20: availability has changed, so verify its current listing instead of assuming it is included.
These extras may move or disappear independently of the three feature films. They also should not be confused with Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the unrelated animated-film listing that can appear in search results.
If a movie does not appear on Disney+
- Confirm that the account is set to the United States or the country whose catalog you are checking. Streaming rights are geographic.
- Make sure the Disney+ subscription is active and that you are signed into the intended account.
- Search for the exact film title—Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, or Avatar: Fire and Ash—rather than the unrelated Avatar: The Last Airbender.
- Check the profile’s parental controls. Disney’s title pages identify the films as PG-13, and a restricted profile may not display them.
- If you are comparing a rental or purchase, recheck the retailer’s listing, edition, language, subtitle, and format details because prices and rights change.
Availability checked for the U.S. on August 9, 2026. Streaming catalogs, rental windows, purchase prices, editions, and plan terms can change without notice; international availability may be different.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is all of James Cameron’s released Avatar series on Disney+?
Yes—in the United States, all three released films, Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Avatar: Fire and Ash, were listed on Disney+ as of August 9, 2026. Fire and Ash began streaming there on June 24, 2026.
Recommended Free Tools
Is Avatar 4 available to watch yet?
No. Avatar 4 has not been released, so it cannot currently be streamed, rented, or purchased. Its announced target date is December 21, 2029, but that schedule remains subject to change.
Does the Disney+ stream include the extended or 3D versions?
Do not assume it does. Disney+’s public listings do not advertise a cut selector or guarantee collector extras, deleted scenes, commentary, or 3D playback. Check the exact digital, Blu-ray, 4K UHD, or 3D edition if a particular version matters.
Can I watch the Avatar movies legally for free?
No free legal streaming option was listed in the latest U.S. checks for any of the three films. A bundle, promotion, wireless benefit, or subscription you already pay for may reduce your additional cost, but it is not the same as free access.
The Bottom Line
Best overall choice: subscribe to Disney+ for one month and watch Avatar, The Way of Water, and Fire and Ash in that order, after checking the current price and cancellation terms. Rent a single film if you do not want a subscription, buy digitally for convenient repeat viewing, and choose physical media when 4K, 3D, collector extras, or independence from streaming availability matters.
