Where can you watch 28 Days Later?
Searchlight Pictures’ official film page currently labels 28 Days Later “Now Streaming,” but does not name the streaming service or specify which countries the label covers. That is not enough to conclude that the film is included with a particular subscription everywhere.

Sony Pictures lists Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and YouTube as digital options. The page does not say whether each local listing is for rental, purchase, or both. Check the retailer in your country for its current availability and terms before choosing.

Should you watch it before 28 Years Later?
Watching the 2002 film first is a sensible choice if you want the story’s starting point and the context of the world the newer film inhabits. Sony describes 28 Years Later (2025) as set in the world created by 28 Days Later, and says Danny Boyle and Alex Garland reunite for it. The original is not simply another chapter set at the same moment: it begins with the outbreak and follows survivors in its aftermath, while the later film is set decades on.

If you mainly want to follow the franchise’s foundation, start with 28 Days Later. If you are more interested in the later film’s distinct setting, its decades-later premise is the key change to know. The official descriptions establish the connection and timeline, but do not say that watching the original is required to understand the newer film.
What is 28 Days Later about?
The film opens with animal-rights activists releasing infected chimpanzees. Jim, played by Cillian Murphy, wakes from a coma in an empty London hospital and tries to make sense of the deserted city. He encounters other survivors and learns that a virus has left its victims violently enraged. Sony classifies the film as horror and gives it an R rating.

Danny Boyle directed the film. The official pages list Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, Megan Burns, and Brendan Gleeson among its cast. That premise makes the original useful background for the franchise’s outbreak and survivor story without giving away more of the plot.

For someone deciding what to watch now, the straightforward order is 28 Days Later, then 28 Years Later, followed by The Bone Temple if you want to continue the newer story.
