Where to livestream the 2025 Boston Marathon online depended on location: U.S. viewers had ESPN2 nationally from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET, while WCVB offered Boston-area coverage from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. The race was held April 21, 2025, so it is not live as of August 14, 2026.
The 129th Boston Marathon was a historical broadcast event, and the official viewing information is therefore best understood as a race-day record. The article below separates national, local, regional, and international access and avoids promising a replay that the reviewed sources do not verify.
Key takeaways
- The 129th Boston Marathon took place on Monday, April 21, 2025, so the race is not live as of August 14, 2026.
- ESPN2 was the U.S. national television outlet, with live coverage scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET.
- WCVB Channel 5 provided Boston-area coverage from 4:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. ET, including digital platforms and mobile apps.
- WMUR, WMTW, and WPTZ carried regional simulcasts in parts of New England.
- International viewers needed to use the broadcaster assigned to their country, such as FloSports in Australia or TSN/RDS in Canada.
- The reviewed official sources confirm race-day distribution but do not establish that a full 2025 broadcast remains available as a replay.
Where could you livestream the 2025 Boston Marathon online?
On race day, U.S. viewers could watch the 2025 Boston Marathon online through WCVB’s digital platforms, mobile apps, and Very Local Boston, while ESPN2 carried the national broadcast from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET. The race occurred on April 21, 2025, so no official live event remains today.
The Boston Athletic Association’s 2025 media guide identified ESPN as the official national television provider and WCVB as the local provider. Availability depended on location: WCVB’s extended schedule was intended for Boston and surrounding New England markets, not as a nationwide stream.

What channel was the Boston Marathon on in the United States?
ESPN2 was the principal U.S. national channel for the 2025 Boston Marathon. According to the Boston Athletic Association’s 2025 media guide, ESPN2’s live race coverage ran from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET on April 21, 2025. ESPN also scheduled related Boston Marathon coverage within SportsCenter and other ESPN programming and platforms.
The ESPN2 schedule was a national television window rather than proof that ESPN2 was freely streamable in every country. Viewers who watched through an ESPN-supported website, app, or television provider still needed access available in their U.S. market and under the applicable provider terms.
How could Boston-area viewers watch the race online?
WCVB Channel 5 was the most useful local option for viewers in Boston and nearby markets. According to the B.A.A. 2025 media guide, WCVB carried live coverage from 4:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. ET, a substantially longer local-day window than ESPN2’s national race coverage.
WCVB also distributed coverage through its digital platforms and mobile apps. The B.A.A. identified Very Local Boston as a local streaming destination. Those routes were particularly useful for viewers who wanted pre-race reporting, local course coverage, and post-race programming in addition to the nationally televised race window.

If your television did not support the relevant app, a streaming device could be another way to watch a supported service on a larger screen. Which New England stations carried regional simulcasts?
Viewers in parts of New England could receive WCVB’s regional coverage through sister stations, but the exact station depended on the viewer’s market. The B.A.A.’s official materials listed the following regional simulcasts:
| Station | Primary market named in the 2025 materials | Role |
|---|---|---|
| WCVB Channel 5 | Boston and surrounding New England coverage area | Local coverage and digital distribution |
| WMUR | Manchester, New Hampshire | Regional simulcast |
| WMTW | Portland/Auburn, Maine | Regional simulcast |
| WPTZ | Burlington, Vermont / Plattsburgh, New York | Regional simulcast |
A regional station’s availability was market-specific. Checking the local station’s schedule or digital service would have been necessary, because receiving one of these stations was not guaranteed outside its coverage area.
How could viewers outside the United States watch the Boston Marathon?
International viewers needed to use the official rights holder assigned to their territory. ESPN2 and WCVB were U.S. options and should not have been treated as universal international streams.

| Territory | Broadcaster or streaming outlet identified for 2025 | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Australia | FloSports | Availability was tied to Australian rights. |
| Canada | TSN/RDS | Canadian viewers needed the applicable TSN or RDS distribution. |
| China | SMG | Distribution was territory-specific. |
| Brazil | ESPN Brazil | Brazilian ESPN distribution applied rather than assuming U.S. ESPN2 access. |
| Anguilla and associated Latin American territories | ESPN LATAM/Sur | Exact availability depended on the territory and current rights. |
The B.A.A.’s spectator information listed these territory-based broadcast outlets. Rights can change between race editions, so a future Boston Marathon guide should verify the country, broadcaster, subscription requirements, and live window before directing viewers to an international service.
Was FloTrack or FloSports the universal Boston Marathon stream?
No. FloTrack/FloSports was relevant to international and territory-dependent distribution, but it was not established as a universal substitute for ESPN2 or WCVB in the United States.
The FloTrack 2025 Boston Marathon event page explained how viewers could access the broadcast through the FloSports app. The B.A.A.’s international listings also identified FloSports for Australia. Those references support FloTrack/FloSports as a possible path for viewers in applicable territories, not as evidence that every viewer worldwide—or every U.S. viewer—could use it.
Did ESPN and WCVB continue as Boston Marathon broadcast partners?
Yes. On April 21, 2025, the Boston Athletic Association announced that ESPN and WCVB would continue as the exclusive national and local broadcast partners, respectively, under a multi-year extension. The partnership announcement confirms the roles for the 2025 race, but it does not by itself establish the schedule or streaming rights for every future edition.

Jack Fleming, President and CEO of the Boston Athletic Association, said: “WCVB has a long history of serving our community as well as covering the market’s beloved, signature events, and our partnership with the B.A.A. ideally suits that mission.” The statement appears in the B.A.A.’s April 21, 2025 broadcast-partnership announcement.
Can you still watch a full 2025 Boston Marathon replay?
The reviewed official sources do not verify that a complete 2025 Boston Marathon broadcast remains available on demand. The sources establish the race-day television and streaming destinations, but they do not establish continuing replay availability, an archive expiration date, or a current full-race recording.
A video page or highlight package should not automatically be described as the full broadcast. If you are looking for a replay now, check the official ESPN, WCVB, Very Local, B.A.A., or territory-specific broadcaster pages and confirm that the video is a complete, authorized replay rather than highlights or short clips.
Which viewing option was best for each type of viewer?
| Viewer | Best 2025 race-day route | Why | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| U.S. viewer seeking national race coverage | ESPN2 | Official national window from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET | Shorter window than local coverage; provider access could apply. |
| Boston-area viewer wanting all-day local coverage | WCVB Channel 5, WCVB digital platforms, or Very Local Boston | Coverage ran from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET | Local availability; not a nationwide WCVB stream. |
| Viewer in a participating New England regional market | WMUR, WMTW, or WPTZ | Regional simulcast through the relevant sister station | Market and signal availability varied. |
| Viewer in Australia | FloSports | Listed by the B.A.A. as the Australian outlet | Territory-specific rights and service terms applied. |
| Viewer in Canada | TSN/RDS | Listed by the B.A.A. for Canada | Canadian distribution did not imply U.S. ESPN2 access. |
| Viewer in another international territory | The territory’s listed rights holder | Rights were assigned by country or region | Availability needed to be checked for the exact location. |
What should you check before a future Boston Marathon stream?
- Confirm the race year and date. The 2025 event was held on April 21, 2025, and its live schedule should not be reused as a promise for a future race.
- Identify your territory. U.S. national, Boston-area local, New England regional, and international rights were different categories.
- Check the coverage window. ESPN2’s 2025 national window was 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET; WCVB’s local window was 4:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. ET.
- Check the platform. A television channel, broadcaster website, mobile app, Very Local, and an international streaming service may have separate access rules.
- Separate live coverage from replay access. A current archive must be verified independently rather than inferred from a past broadcast listing.
- Use only rights-cleared viewing or sharing methods. A service designed to loop video does not provide permission to retransmit a sports broadcast.
For future editions, the safest starting point is the B.A.A.’s official spectator and media information, followed by the broadcaster serving your country or local market. The B.A.A.’s 2025 spectator guide is useful historical documentation, but future schedules and rights should be rechecked rather than assumed.
