Start with Yakaboo when you want one service that sells Ukrainian ebooks and audiobooks, offers free titles and a subscription in its app, and supports offline reading or listening. ABUK is a strong audio-first alternative that also carries ebooks, while Google Play Books is useful for searching individual Ukrainian-language audiobooks. Before paying, open the exact title and verify its language, format, price, country availability, and whether access is an app-only license or a downloadable file.
Legal access means using the publisher or platform’s own purchase, subscription, or free-access route. A title appearing in a catalog does not guarantee that it is sold in every country or in every format.
Which legal services should you check first?
The best starting point depends on whether you need both formats, mainly listen to audiobooks, or already have a specific title in mind. The table below separates documented features from provider-reported catalog figures.
| Service | What it offers | Access and offline use | Useful when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yakaboo | Individual Ukrainian ebooks and audiobooks, free titles, and a subscription in its app | Purchases appear in your account library; the app supports offline reading and listening. Some books are mobile-app only because of rights-holder requirements. | You want one Ukrainian storefront for both reading and listening. |
| ABUK | Audio-focused catalog covering contemporary fiction, classics, educational and business books, plus ebooks | The app supports reading and listening, sample access before purchase, and downloading titles for offline use. It offers free and paid books and an ABUK+ subscription. | You mainly listen, want narrated Ukrainian content, or want to sample a title first. |
| Google Play Books | A title-by-title catalog that includes Ukrainian-language literary audiobooks | Availability, format and purchasing options depend on your Google account’s storefront and the specific listing. | You have a particular work or author to search for across a large general marketplace. |
Do not treat any service as universally cheapest or largest. Prices, rights and catalogs change, and the available provider information does not establish an independent, comparable market audit.

Yakaboo: the broadest first stop for both formats
Yakaboo’s ebook FAQ explains a conventional account-based purchase: register, choose a title and format, complete checkout and payment, then open the item from the relevant library. The account areas are labelled “Мої електронні книги” (My ebooks) and “Мої аудіокнижки” (My audiobooks). The FAQ is at yakaboo.ua/ua/faq.
What you can get
The Yakaboo mobile-app page describes three routes: buying individual titles, opening free books, or subscribing. It also describes offline reading and listening, so you can prepare titles before travelling or when connectivity is unreliable. The same page displayed “74,000+” audio and ebooks and “12,000+” audio and ebooks in the subscription catalog when accessed on 13 October 2026. Those are Yakaboo’s own changing offer counts, not an independently audited catalog measurement. See the official app page for current terms.
How to buy and open a title
- Create or sign in to your Yakaboo account.
- Search for the exact title and open its product page.
- Check whether the listing is an ebook, audiobook, or both, and read the stated language and format information.
- Select the available format, add it to the cart and complete payment.
- Open “Мої електронні книги” or “Мої аудіокнижки” in your account to access the purchase.
- If the listing directs you to the mobile app, install or open the app and sign in to the same account.
The app-only limitation matters
Yakaboo warns that some books can only be read in its mobile app because rights holders impose that restriction. Therefore, a paid title is not automatically a transferable EPUB, PDF or other file. Treat the access method shown on the title page as part of what you are buying. If you need to read on a dedicated ereader, confirm downloadable-format support before checkout.

Kindle and MOBI checks
Yakaboo’s FAQ describes MOBI as a format created for Kindle and says that Kindle supports it. That is a format explanation, not a promise that every Yakaboo title is offered as MOBI. A particular book may be app-only or supplied in another format. If you read on Kindle, verify the exact title’s downloadable format and any device restrictions first.

ABUK: an audio-led service that also sells ebooks
ABUK’s official site presents a Ukrainian audiobook store spanning contemporary authors, classics, educational works and business literature. It highlights professional narrators and, for some works, recordings made by the authors themselves. That makes the service useful when narration quality or a particular voice matters as much as the text.
Catalog and subscription information
The ABUK Google Play listing says its app contains free and paid books, an ABUK+ subscription, and samples that can be listened to or read before purchase. The listing reported more than 900 audiobooks and 5,000 Ukrainian-language ebooks when it was accessed on 13 October 2026; it showed an update date of 20 August 2026. These figures are ABUK’s listing claims and can change, rather than independent counts. The listing is at play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=uk&id=com.abuk.

- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
A practical ABUK workflow
- Install the ABUK app from the official store listing and sign in or create an account.
- Search by title, author or category; use the service’s fiction, classics, educational and business groupings when browsing.
- Play or read the available sample to confirm the language, narrator and edition.
- Compare the one-time purchase with any ABUK+ access shown for that title.
- Complete the purchase or subscription in the app.
- Download the title through the app if you need offline listening or reading, and test playback before leaving reliable internet access.
Because ABUK is app-centered, check where the title is stored and how it can be opened before assuming that you will receive a normal file for another reading application.
Google Play Books: search by the exact work
Google Play Books is a useful additional route when you already know the Ukrainian work you want. Its Ukrainian literary-audiobook category visibly lists Ukrainian-language titles at Google Play’s Ukrainian literature audiobook page.
How to verify a Google Play listing
- Open the category or search for the title and author directly.
- Open the individual listing rather than relying on a category thumbnail.
- Confirm that the description identifies a Ukrainian-language audiobook and check the narrator or edition details provided.
- Check the displayed price, purchase button and any device or app notes while signed in to your own Google account.
- Verify that the title is sold in your account’s country storefront; a visible listing does not prove availability in every region.
Use Google Play Books as a title-specific search path, not as evidence that every Ukrainian ebook or audiobook is available there.

Compare the exact title before you pay
Two services may list the same work but offer different editions, narrators, formats or rights. Make the decision at the title level using these checks.
| Question | Why it changes the decision | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Is the text or narration actually in Ukrainian? | A Ukrainian author or translated title can still be listed in another language. | The language statement on the individual product page. |
| Is it an ebook, audiobook or both? | Buying one format does not necessarily unlock the other. | Format label and, for audio, narrator and running-time details if shown. |
| Is access downloadable or app-only? | App-only rights prevent you from moving the title to an arbitrary reader or player. | Download button, supported apps and any rights-holder restriction. |
| What is the total cost? | A one-time purchase and a subscription provide different rights and value. | Current price, subscription requirement and whether access continues under the subscription terms. |
| Will it work in your country? | Storefront licensing can vary by account region. | Availability shown after signing in with your own account. |
| Can your device open it? | File formats and app requirements differ between phones, tablets, computers and dedicated ereaders. | Format name, app requirement and device support before checkout. |
Choose a reading or listening setup
Phone or tablet
A phone or tablet is the least risky choice when the listing requires a provider app. Install the official app, sign in to the purchasing account and download only after confirming that the title appears in your library. Keep the app updated enough to open purchased content, but do not delete it expecting the purchase to become a standalone file.
Dedicated ereader
A dedicated ereader makes sense only when the desired ebook is offered in a compatible downloadable format. Yakaboo’s MOBI explanation is relevant to Kindle users, but app-only titles will not become compatible merely because the device supports MOBI. Confirm format and transfer rules for each book.
Best Value
- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
Offline listening
ABUK’s listing and Yakaboo’s app page both describe offline use. Download while connected to a trusted network, open the title once to confirm it is available offline, and check storage space for audiobooks, which are usually larger than text files. Offline access remains subject to the service’s account and rights rules.
A legal purchase checklist
- Use the provider’s official website or app-store listing, not a mirror or file-sharing link.
- Match the title, author, language and edition before payment.
- Read whether the item is a purchase, a subscription inclusion or a free title.
- Confirm your country or account region can buy and open it.
- Note whether the title is app-only, downloadable, or restricted to a named format.
- Keep the receipt and the account credentials used for the transaction.
- Do not upload purchased files or share account access; personal access does not grant redistribution rights.
Fix common access problems
The title does not appear in search
Try the original Ukrainian spelling, alternate transliteration and the author’s name. Then check the other two services, because catalogs and territorial rights differ. A missing result is not proof that no legal edition exists, only that the service did not return one for that query and region.
The listing is visible but you cannot buy it
Sign in and recheck your storefront country. Google Play Books explicitly depends on the account region, and the Ukrainian services can also show rights-limited titles. Do not bypass a regional block with an unauthorized download.
You expected a file but received app access
Return to the product information and look for the app-only notice or supported-format list. Yakaboo states that rights-holder requirements can make some books mobile-app only. If portability is essential, choose a listing that explicitly provides a format your device supports before paying.
Offline playback or reading fails
Confirm that the title finished downloading while online, that you are signed in to the purchasing account and that the app can access local storage. Reopen the app with a connection, allow the library to synchronize, and download again. If the title remains unavailable, use the provider’s support channel rather than a third-party copy.
What “legal” means for free titles and subscriptions
Free does not mean unauthorized. Yakaboo and ABUK both describe free books inside their own services; those are legal when accessed through the provider’s account or app under the displayed terms. A subscription can make a catalog available while the subscription is active, but it should not be treated as ownership of a permanent, transferable file. Read the title’s access note and the current subscription conditions before relying on it for long-term access.
Quick Recap
Quick decision guide
- Need both ebooks and audiobooks in one Ukrainian storefront: check Yakaboo first, then verify whether each title is downloadable or app-only.
- Mainly want Ukrainian narration and samples: browse ABUK, listen to the sample, and compare one-time purchase with ABUK+.
- Have one specific literary audiobook in mind: search Google Play Books and compare the exact edition with listings on Yakaboo and ABUK.
- Read on Kindle: buy only after the title page confirms a compatible downloadable format; Yakaboo’s general MOBI note does not cover every title.
- Travelling without reliable internet: choose a listing that explicitly supports offline downloads and test it before departure.
