Its next festival is scheduled for June 1–6, 2027 in Toronto, followed by an online edition from June 7–13, 2027. During the online period, use the festival’s virtual catalog to check each film’s territory, access window and ticket requirement. For free digital and audio work, use the separate iNdigital Space. Red Nation and Vision Maker Media provide additional official routes, but their current titles and viewing terms must be checked at the destination.
imagineNATIVE is the clearest starting point
imagineNATIVE presents Indigenous film, video, audio, digital and interactive work. The festival has both a Toronto program and an online component, making it a practical entry point for viewers who cannot attend in person. The next published edition runs in Toronto from June 1 through June 6, 2027, with online programming scheduled for June 7 through June 13, 2027.
The festival page is the place to watch for the program announcement, ticket information, newsletters and year-round events. Dates alone do not tell you whether a particular documentary will stream: online access is decided title by title.
What the online festival includes
During the online edition, open the official virtual catalog and select an individual film listing. The listing should tell you whether the work is available online, how to obtain access and whether your location is eligible. An in-person selection may be absent from the virtual catalog because the festival does not automatically put every physical screening online.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Location restrictions can apply when rights holders have licensed a work for particular territories. A film that appears in the catalog from one country may be blocked in another. Check the listing while signed in from the location where you intend to watch rather than relying on a general festival announcement.
Film and video are different from iNdigital
imagineNATIVE separates its ticketed online Film + Video program from iNdigital Space. iNdigital is described by the organization as free and open to the public. Its program can include virtual reality, 360-degree video, augmented reality, video games, interactive web projects and other digital media, as well as audio work.
Many iNdigital works are also made available online for free during the festival period. The format may require more than a conventional video player: a browser interaction, headphones, a mobile device, a VR headset or a compatible computer can be part of the experience. Read the individual work’s instructions before assuming it can be viewed like a standard film.
Year-round access through the imagineNATIVE Tour
If the annual online window has closed, check the imagineNATIVE Tour and the organization’s event calendar. The Tour presents a selection from an official festival program through touring screenings, co-presentations and special events. It is a way to find Indigenous-made screen work throughout the year, but dates and locations vary. A local screening may be the only authorized way to see a particular title after its festival window.

Other official routes for Indigenous films
Red Nation Television Network and Red Nation Films
Red Nation’s official site points viewers to Red Nation Television Network and Red Nation Films. Red Nation Films is described as a distribution label that connects independent films with streaming platforms. These destinations can lead to films outside the annual festival cycle.
Use the current catalog on the Red Nation destination to determine whether a film is free, subscription-based, rented or purchased, and whether it is available in your country. Distribution arrangements change, so an older article or social post should not be treated as proof that a title still streams.
Vision Maker Media
Vision Maker Media lists several ways to find Indigenous films: PBS, FNX, YouTube Shorts for Kids and its own film shop. Each outlet has its own schedule, audience and access rules. A program may be broadcast, streamed for a limited time, offered as a short-form video or sold through the shop.
Search the film’s current page and follow the outlet named there. Confirm whether viewing is live or on-demand, whether an account is required, and whether the rights cover your territory. The homepage’s list of outlets is a discovery map, not a guarantee that every Vision Maker Media title is simultaneously available on every service.

How to find a film you can actually watch
- Choose the format. Decide whether you want a conventional documentary, a short, audio, or an interactive work. Film + Video and iNdigital use separate parts of the imagineNATIVE program.
- Open the organizer’s current page. Use the official imagineNATIVE festival page, virtual catalog, iNdigital page, Tour calendar, Red Nation destination or Vision Maker Media outlet named for the title. Avoid relying on an undated third-party list.
- Read the individual listing. Look for the online or in-person designation, screening dates, start and end times, ticket instructions, age guidance and technical requirements.
- Check your territory before paying. Rights can be geoblocked. A listing that is visible to you may still show a different access rule after you select a country or attempt playback.
- Record the access deadline. Festival streams are usually tied to a defined window. Save the end date and time in your own time zone, especially when the catalog gives times in Eastern Time.
- Test the playback method. For a standard film, check browser and device compatibility. For VR, 360, games or interactive web work, read the work-specific instructions and allow time for downloads, updates or account setup.
- Use the organizer’s support route. If a paid screening does not unlock, contact the festival or platform named on the listing. Do not assume that a missing play button means the film has been removed; it may indicate a territory, date or account issue.
Understand festival windows, rights and territories
A festival program is a curated event, not a permanent streaming library. A film can be selected for a physical screening without being licensed for online use. The rights holder may permit online playback only in certain countries, only for a few days, or only after a viewer purchases a ticket through the festival system.
imagineNATIVE’s 2026 virtual catalog gave a specific warning: “Please note that not all films screened during the in-person Festival will be available online.” The same catalog identified location geoblocking and distribution rights as reasons for different access conditions. Treat that notice as a practical rule for future editions: confirm availability on the film’s own listing.
The 2026 online access period ran from June 8, 2026 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time through June 14, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. Those dates are historical and should not be used as the 2027 schedule. The next published online dates are June 7–13, 2027; a separate 2027 playback window and daily times should be taken from the current catalog when released.
Free, ticketed and paid routes
“Online” does not necessarily mean free. imagineNATIVE’s online Film + Video access is described as ticketed private viewing, while iNdigital is described as free and open to the public. Red Nation and Vision Maker Media may direct you to services with different models, including free viewing, subscriptions, rentals, purchases or a film shop.

Before committing to a payment, identify four things on the destination page:
- Whether the charge is for a single title, a package, a subscription or a membership.
- When playback begins and when it expires.
- Whether the purchase works in your country and on your device.
- Whether the title is available with captions, audio description or other accessibility features.
The official pages establish these different routes but do not provide one comparable price list for all organizations. Prices and access terms should therefore be checked at the time you choose a film.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the 2026 imagineNATIVE program shows about its range
imagineNATIVE reported that its 2026 official selection represented 56 Indigenous Nations, 51 Indigenous Languages and 20 Countries. The selection included 20 feature films, 82 short films arranged across 12 programs, 13 Digital + Interactive works and 11 Audio works.
Those figures are the festival’s own report for that edition, not an independent industry census. They illustrate why searching only for feature-length films can miss a substantial part of the program: shorts, audio pieces and interactive works are organized as distinct categories and may have different ways to watch or listen.

Troubleshoot common access problems
The film is listed but will not play
Check the release window first. Festival catalogs often show a title before playback opens or after it closes. Next, verify that you are using the account, browser or application required by the listing. If the page reports a country restriction, the limitation is a rights condition rather than a device fault.
The in-person program has a film you cannot find online
That is expected for some selections. Search the Tour calendar and the distributor named by the film. A later local screening or a separate streaming-platform release may be the authorized route.
An interactive work looks broken
Return to the work’s instructions and check supported browsers, permissions, headphones, controllers or VR equipment. Interactive pieces may not load inside an embedded social-media browser. Open the official page in a current desktop or mobile browser and follow its setup steps.
You missed the festival week
Use the year-round Tour calendar, Red Nation’s current destinations and Vision Maker Media’s listed outlets. These routes do not reproduce the festival catalog, but they can lead to authorized Indigenous films and programs outside the annual window.
How to keep up with new programs
Subscribe to imagineNATIVE’s newsletter and monitor its festival and event pages for program announcements, ticket releases and Tour dates. When the 2027 catalog appears, build your watch list from individual listings rather than from a headline announcement. For Red Nation and Vision Maker Media, bookmark the official viewing destinations and recheck them when a title’s availability matters; catalogs and platform rights can change without preserving an older listing.
For viewers outside Canada, the most reliable habit is to verify territory at the moment of viewing. The confirmed 2027 dates establish when the festival is scheduled, not which films every country will receive. A current title page, its access window and its rights notice are the final authority.
