Vili Fualaau is reportedly still living in the Seattle area and has kept his life largely private. The current public record most reliably identifies him as a father of three daughters and a grandfather. It does not establish his exact residence, employer, current partner, or daily life.
Public reporting places Vili Fualaau in the Seattle area, where he has kept his life largely private. There is no reliable public confirmation of his exact address, neighborhood, employer, or day-to-day routine. The clearest current picture is that Fualaau is an adult father of three daughters and a grandfather, rather than a public figure who regularly discusses his personal life.
That limited update matters because March 4, 2026, marked 29 years since Mary Kay Letourneau was arrested after authorities learned that she was sexually abusing Fualaau, then her 12-year-old sixth-grade student. The later marriage between Fualaau and Letourneau does not change the fact that the relationship began with the sexual abuse of a child.
Where is Vili Fualaau now?
A report published in January 2024, drawing on an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, described Fualaau as “still alive and well” and living in the Seattle area. More recent “where is he now?” coverage has generally repeated that information rather than documenting a confirmed move or a current career.

The most accurate description is therefore: Fualaau has continued to live in the Seattle area, according to public reporting, while maintaining a low profile. His precise residence is not publicly established, and publishing or guessing at an address would be inappropriate. There is also no well-sourced public account of his current employer, business, job title, finances, health, sobriety, or private living arrangements.
He is a father and grandfather
Fualaau and Letourneau had two daughters, Audrey and Georgia. Both were born during or around the criminal case and Letourneau’s imprisonment. Public reporting later identified Fualaau’s youngest daughter as Sophia, who was born in 2022. The identity of Sophia’s mother has been kept private.
Fualaau is also a grandfather. Georgia became a mother in January 2024. In coverage of her pregnancy, Georgia described her father as supportive and indicated that she expected him to be involved in the child’s life.
Audrey and her fiancé, Ethan Tela Porter, welcomed a son, Elias Ulumailuma D. Porter, on May 30, 2025. Based on the publicly reported family milestones, the safest current summary is that Fualaau has three daughters and at least two publicly reported grandchildren by 2025.

Those family details should not be used to fill in facts that have not been reported. Public sources do not reliably establish whether Fualaau is currently married, whether he lives with Sophia’s mother, or what his custody and co-parenting arrangements are.
His relationship with Mary Kay Letourneau
Letourneau and Fualaau married in May 2005, after Letourneau was released from prison and after Fualaau reached adulthood. Their legal separation was finalized in 2019. Letourneau died of cancer in July 2020 at age 58.
The marriage is often used to frame the case as an unusual romance, but that framing is misleading. Fualaau was 12 when the abuse began, and Letourneau was his teacher. She later pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree rape of a child. His later attachment to her, his defense of her in some public comments, and their eventual marriage do not make the original conduct consensual or harmless.
What Fualaau said about May December
Fualaau returned briefly to public discussion after the release of Todd Haynes’s 2023 film May December. The film does not use the couple’s names and is not a documentary, but it was widely described as being loosely inspired by the Letourneau-Fualaau case.

In an interview published in January 2024, Fualaau said he was offended by the film and by the fact that he had not been consulted. He described himself as someone still living with the consequences of the real events.
That reaction is relevant to understanding his current public position: he has not sought sustained media attention, but he objected when a fictionalized version of his childhood and family history brought the case back into the spotlight. Viewers who watch May December should treat it as a fictional interpretation, not as a precise account of Fualaau’s life. Its characters, setting, family structure, and events differ from the documented case.
For readers who want to compare the film with the participants’ own account, Only One Crime, Love—also published in French as Un Seul Crime, L’Amour—was co-authored by Letourneau and Fualaau. It is a primary participant account, not an objective or complete history of the case, and its availability can vary by edition and country.

The case included an initial plea arrangement and a court-ordered no-contact condition. Letourneau later violated that condition; police found her with Fualaau, leading to further legal action and a prison sentence of more than seven years. She ultimately pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree rape of a child.
Because the arrest occurred on March 4, 1997, its 29-year anniversary was March 4, 2026. Describing the case as an “affair,” “forbidden romance,” or a relationship between equal partners erases the central legal and developmental fact: an adult teacher sexually abused a child in her care.
What remains unknown about Fualaau?
Despite recurring online claims and recycled anniversary articles, the public record does not reliably answer several common questions:
- Exact location: The Seattle area has been reported, but no precise address or neighborhood is confirmed.
- Employment: A current employer, business, or job title has not been established by strong recent reporting.
- Relationship status: There is no dependable public confirmation that he is currently married or in a particular relationship.
- Sophia’s mother: Her identity has been kept private.
- Private health and finances: Claims about his mental health, sobriety, income, or recovery are not supported by the available reporting.
- A permanent move: Nothing in the strongest available coverage confirms that he has left the Seattle area.
The most defensible answer
Vili Fualaau appears to be living a private life in the Seattle area. Publicly documented family updates show him as the father of three daughters and a grandfather, with two grandchildren reported by 2025. His name resurfaced after May December, which he criticized for fictionalizing the case without consulting him.

Beyond those points, the responsible answer is uncertainty. There is no authoritative evidence establishing an exact residence, job, current partner, or detailed account of his private life. The fact that Fualaau is now an adult does not justify turning his childhood abuse into a search for personal details that he has chosen not to make public.
