Combs was not arrested at either residence and was later seen at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. He is no longer missing from the public record: he is serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey after a jury convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. His appeal is pending.

The short answer: Sean Combs is in federal prison
As of August 10, 2026, Combs is incarcerated at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey. He was sentenced on October 3, 2025, to 50 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and fined $500,000. The sentence followed convictions on two counts under 18 U.S.C. § 2421(a), the federal statute covering transportation to engage in prostitution.
He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and two sex-trafficking counts. Therefore, it is inaccurate to say that Combs was convicted of sex trafficking, but it is also inaccurate to say that he was found innocent of every charge. The complete convictions and acquittals are set out in the amended criminal judgment.

Combs’s appeal, Second Circuit case No. 25-2623, was argued on April 9, 2026. No public merits decision had been located in the available docket material as of the update date. His projected release date should not be treated as fixed: the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator warns that release dates can be recalculated.
What happened on March 25, 2024?
On March 25, 2024, Homeland Security Investigations agents and other law-enforcement personnel searched Combs-connected residences in Los Angeles and Miami. The operation was led by HSI New York, with participation from HSI offices in Los Angeles and Miami, local law-enforcement partners and federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.
HSI’s public statement was deliberately limited. It described the activity as “law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation.” Officials did not publicly identify Combs as the target, explain the full probable-cause theory or announce charges that day. The Associated Press and CBS News reported that the searches were connected to a federal investigation involving alleged sex trafficking.
That distinction matters. A federal search is an investigative step, not an arrest, indictment or conviction. On raid day, no criminal charges against Combs had been publicly announced.

Where was Combs while his homes were being searched?
The strongest contemporary reporting placed Combs at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport while agents searched the residences. Reports said he was preparing to travel on a private aircraft, and his phones were seized during the airport operation under a separate warrant.
Contemporary coverage also reported that he was reportedly planning to travel to the Bahamas. Flight information showed that an aircraft associated with Combs later traveled from Los Angeles to Antigua and Barbuda, but the available data did not establish that Combs was aboard it or confirm where he went. The original Rolling Stone account correctly treated his immediate whereabouts as uncertain.
There is no reliable basis for stating that Combs fled the country, escaped authorities or was hiding. The supported facts are narrower: he was seen at the Miami-area airport, a reported travel plan circulated, and an associated aircraft moved. Those facts do not prove that he was on the plane or that he was evading law enforcement.
Which properties were searched?
Early news reports described a Los Angeles mansion in Holmby Hills and a home on Miami’s Star Island. Later court filings supplied more precise information about the warrants:
- Los Angeles: Combs’s residence on Mapleton Drive.
- Miami: Combs’s residence on Star Island Drive.
According to a later court filing discussing the searches, residential search warrants for those two properties were obtained on March 22, 2024. On March 25, investigators obtained a separate warrant authorizing the search of Combs’s person and the seizure and search of two cellphones.
The warrant record is more specific than saying that every property connected with Combs was searched. In particular, reporting should not imply that a New York property was searched on March 25 unless a specific warrant or reliable law-enforcement source establishes it.
Was Combs arrested or charged during the raids?
No. Combs was not arrested at either home on March 25, 2024, and no criminal charge against him had been publicly announced during the searches. His federal arrest occurred almost six months later, on September 16, 2024, in New York. The indictment was announced the following day.
The later indictment charged him with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The Justice Department’s charging announcement expressly noted that the allegations in an indictment are accusations, not proof of guilt.
It is useful to keep four separate events apart:
- Searches of the residences on March 25, 2024.
- The reported seizure and search of Combs’s phones at the airport.
- His arrest in New York on September 16, 2024.
- The federal indictment and later criminal trial.
Headlines and social-media posts often collapsed these events into one incident, but they involved different legal actions and occurred months apart.
Who was detained or arrested at the time?
Two of Combs’s adult sons, Justin and King, were briefly detained outside the Los Angeles residence, according to contemporary reporting. They were released without charges. They were not convicted or charged simply because they were present during the search.
Brendan Paul, an associate named in a separate civil complaint, was arrested at Miami-Opa Locka Airport on reported cocaine- and marijuana-possession allegations. Early coverage, including ABC News and Rolling Stone, said it was unclear whether Paul’s airport arrest was connected to the broader federal investigation involving Combs.
Accordingly, it would be misleading to describe Paul’s arrest as an arrest in the Combs case unless a later court filing or law-enforcement source establishes that connection.

What did investigators seize?
The public account of the evidence developed in stages. There was no complete official inventory released immediately after the March 2024 searches, so the source and date of each claim matter.
What was reported immediately after the searches
Contemporary reports said investigators removed boxes and electronic material from the residences. They also reported that Combs’s phones were seized during the airport operation. Officials did not initially publish a comprehensive list of everything taken from the homes. Reuters reporting described the removal of boxes and electronic devices, while Rolling Stone reported on the phone seizure and the uncertainty surrounding the airport operation.
Items later described in the indictment
The federal indictment later alleged that investigators seized narcotics, more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant, ammunition, a drum magazine and firearms, including AR-15-style weapons with defaced serial numbers. Those details came from the charging document, not from a complete raid-day inventory publicly released by HSI. The original indictment should therefore be identified as the source.
Items described at trial
During the 2025 trial, an HSI agent described firearms, ammunition, drugs, lingerie, high heels, sex toys, condoms, baby oil and lubricant recovered from the Miami property. The evidence was presented through trial testimony and exhibits, including accounts reported by the Associated Press and NBC Miami.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe firearm descriptions should not be compressed into one supposedly definitive inventory. The indictment referred to multiple firearms, including AR-15-style weapons with defaced serial numbers. Later trial reporting described agents finding parts of two AR-15 rifles and other weapons at the Miami property. Those accounts should be attributed to the particular document or testimony being summarized.
One widely repeated online claim is unsupported: there is no evidence that the baby oil seized from Combs’s homes was laced with GHB. A Lead Stories fact-check found that court documents did not establish that claim.
What prompted the searches?
On March 25, officials did not publicly spell out the probable-cause theory behind the warrants. Reports connected the operation to an ongoing federal investigation into alleged sex trafficking and to a growing series of civil lawsuits against Combs.
One important piece of context was a November 2023 civil lawsuit filed by Cassie Ventura, Combs’s former partner, containing allegations of physical and sexual abuse. That case settled shortly afterward. Other civil claims followed. The lawsuits helped explain why the searches drew public attention, but the public record does not establish that any one lawsuit automatically caused the raids or identify a single complaint as the trigger.

Later court filings provided more detail. Investigators obtained warrants supported by affidavits describing witness accounts, alleged abuse, drug use and other evidence. Much of that material remains redacted. The available record therefore shows the general investigative context, but not every fact that led agents to seek the warrants. A court filing discussing the warrants and an opinion addressing them offer more detail than the initial HSI statement.
The careful description is that the searches were part of a federal investigation associated with alleged sex trafficking. It is not that the searches themselves proved a trafficking operation, or that civil lawsuits alone established criminal conduct.

| Late October 2025 | He was transferred from pretrial detention at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. |
| April 9, 2026 | The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit heard oral argument in his appeal. |
| July 2026 | News reports said Combs was placed in restrictive housing after an altercation with another inmate. The reports did not amount to a publicly confirmed Bureau of Prisons disciplinary finding. |
The charging announcement, verdict and sentence are documented by the Justice Department, the department’s verdict statement and the amended judgment.

The trial produced a split verdict. The jury convicted Combs on:

- Count 5: transportation to engage in prostitution under 18 U.S.C. § 2421(a).
The jury acquitted him on Counts 1, 2 and 4, which corresponded to racketeering conspiracy and the two sex-trafficking charges in the superseding indictment.
This result is central to understanding the case. The federal investigation and indictment began with far more serious and broader allegations than the offenses on which Combs was ultimately convicted. The acquittals mean the jury did not find the government had proved those specific counts beyond a reasonable doubt. They do not mean that Combs was acquitted of the two transportation offenses, and they do not support a claim that every underlying allegation was proven false.
The sentence also became a major appellate issue because the defense argues that the judge improperly considered conduct related to charges on which the jury acquitted Combs. His lawyers are also challenging the Mann Act convictions and arguing that the conduct involved constitutionally protected amateur pornography, according to coverage of the appeal by Reuters and the Associated Press. Those are arguments before the appellate court, not rulings that have already been accepted.
Where is he now, and when might he be released?
Combs is serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, not awaiting trial in a jail. His sentence includes 50 months of imprisonment, five years of supervised release after imprisonment and a $500,000 fine.

A projected federal release date is not necessarily the same thing as a guaranteed release date. BOP records can change because of sentence calculations, custody credits, program credits, disciplinary matters, administrative decisions or the outcome of an appeal. Public reports have listed different projected dates. A July 30, 2026 report based on BOP records listed January 24, 2028, but that date should be checked against the current BOP inmate locator immediately before publication. The Bureau specifically warns that locator information, including release dates, may not be current or final.
ABC News and UPI reported that Combs was placed in restrictive housing after a late-July 2026 altercation with another inmate. That information should remain attributed to those reports; the available material does not show an official BOP confirmation of a disciplinary finding. ABC News and UPI reported the alleged housing change.
What remains unknown?
- The complete inventory of everything seized during the March 25 searches has not been publicly presented in one authoritative list.
- There is no public confirmation that Combs was aboard the aircraft associated with the reported trip from Los Angeles to Antigua and Barbuda.
- The public record does not identify with certainty which witness, lawsuit or piece of evidence specifically triggered the warrants.
- The warrant affidavits remain substantially redacted.
- The reported 2026 prison altercation and restrictive-housing placement have not been established as an official BOP disciplinary finding in the available material.
- The Second Circuit had not issued a public merits ruling on the appeal as of August 10, 2026.
The most accurate answer has therefore changed over time. On March 25, 2024, Combs’s whereabouts after the searches were uncertain, although he was seen at a Miami-area airport. Today, his location and legal status are clear: he is serving a federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix after convictions on two transportation-to-engage-in-prostitution counts, while his appeal remains unresolved.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The March 2024 raids did not result in Combs’s arrest at either home. He was seen at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, but reports never established that he fled or boarded the aircraft associated with a later international flight. Nearly six months later, he was arrested and indicted. After a split 2025 verdict, he was convicted on two transportation-to-engage-in-prostitution counts and sentenced to 50 months. As of August 10, 2026, he is at FCI Fort Dix, and his appeal is still pending.
