The best-documented historical lead is White Bay, near Balmain in Sydney, where Disney and New South Wales officials discussed tourism and entertainment concepts in 2007–08. Those ideas were preliminary, and White Bay is now part of the Bays Precinct redevelopment—not an announced Disney project.
Has Disney chosen a location in Australia?
No. ABC News reported on 16 February 2025 that The Walt Disney Company had never publicly declared plans for an Australian theme park. That describes the public record covered by the report; it cannot establish what the company may be considering privately. No Australian site has been publicly announced as the location of a Disney park. ABC News, 16 February 2025
Why does White Bay come up in Disneyland rumours?
White Bay, near Balmain on Sydney Harbour, is the strongest historical basis for the recurring Sydney claim. ABC Radio National’s PM reported on 27 February 2008 that Disney had approached the New South Wales Government about the area. State Development Minister Ian Macdonald said the ideas covered tourism and entertainment, including regeneration of the old power site, but were not finalized. This was a discussion of broad concepts, not confirmation that Disney had chosen a site or committed to building a park. ABC Radio National’s PM, 27 February 2008
At the time, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman John Nicoletti said: “We’re constantly exploring opportunities to grow our business and part of that process is we have conversations with lots of entities. While Australia, we realise, is an attractive market, at this time we really have no plans for this region.” That statement described Disney’s position in 2008; it should not be read as a current comment.

Is White Bay still a current candidate?
There is no public evidence in the cited reporting that White Bay is a current Disney candidate. ABC’s 2025 report places the area within the Bays Precinct redevelopment and describes plans for nearby hubs including Blackwattle Bay, Bays West and the new Sydney Fish Market. Old references to a Sydney Disneyland should therefore be understood as accounts of the 2007–08 discussion, not as evidence of an active project. ABC News, 16 February 2025
Does the Dreamworld plan at Coomera involve Disney?
No Disney proposal is identified in the official accounts of the approved Coomera masterplan. In July 2026, Queensland approved a 55.3-hectare Dreamworld masterplan covering the continued operation and expansion of Dreamworld and WhiteWater World, alongside tourism, accommodation, entertainment and residential uses. Dreamworld’s own statement describes its Coomera freehold landholding as 55 hectares and says the company had made no decisions or commitments about the proposed use of the site. Neither the government approval nor Dreamworld’s statement identifies Disney as part of the plan. Dreamworld, 2026
What would establish a real Australian Disneyland proposal?
A plausible-sounding location, a local development plan or an old conversation is not the same as a Disney project. To assess any future location claim, look for public confirmation from Disney or the relevant Australian government, and for clear evidence of the proposal’s status. Useful details would include:
Recommended Free Tools
- Whether Disney has confirmed its involvement and the nature of any commitment.
- The site boundary and how much land is available for the proposed use.
- Transport access, infrastructure needs and effects on neighboring uses and residents.
- Planning approvals and any environmental constraints.
These are general checks for evaluating a future proposal, not evidence that a particular Australian location is being considered.

For Australians seeking a Disney park now, ABC identifies Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland among the closest existing options. Both are outside Australia; neither is a candidate site for an Australian park. ABC News, 16 February 2025
