Why is One Piece on hiatus?
Toei Animation announced a change to the anime’s production and broadcast structure in October 2025: from 2026 onward, the series would air in two cours per year, with a maximum of 26 new episodes annually. That announcement explains the broader move away from an uninterrupted weekly run. It does not establish the specific reason for the pause after the 2026 episodes, so the later hiatus should not be attributed to that earlier production pause or presented as having a confirmed cause. Toei described the format change as a strategic schedule decision in its October 28, 2025 release.
How long is the break?
The confirmed information here establishes the last listed episode date and a reported return year, but not an exact hiatus duration. Without a confirmed return date, counting from the September 27 broadcast would produce only an estimate, not an official break length.
Toei’s previous major pause offers a useful comparison, but not a measure of this one. After episode 1122 in October 2024, Toei said One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga would air weekly in the regular slot during the break; its final episode aired March 30, 2025. The 26-episode figure is a maximum, not a guarantee that every year will contain exactly 26 episodes. Two cours also means the series is planned in separate broadcast blocks rather than as a continuous year-round weekly run.

What can you watch or read during the break?
The prior pause had a named replacement program, but the cited material does not identify a comparable show occupying the slot now. Toei and Crunchyroll announced the Elbaph Arc simulcast return for spring 2026, but that announcement does not establish which episodes remain available to stream during this later hiatus, or availability in every territory. Check your local service catalog rather than assuming access: Toei and Crunchyroll’s February 17, 2026 announcement.
