Was May 12 the Max premiere date?
No. May 12 was the U.S. Adult Swim premiere date, not the date to describe as the Max premiere. The official scheduling information gives an exact midnight time for the Adult Swim broadcast, but it identifies only May 13 as the Max release date. There is no basis here for saying that Max released the episodes at exactly midnight.
This also means that someone watching the linear Adult Swim broadcast and someone using Max would have had different release dates:
- Watching on Adult Swim: the Season 2 double premiere began at midnight on May 12, 2024.
- Watching on Max: the episodes became available on May 13, 2024.
What happened in the Season 2 premiere?
Adult Swim promoted Season 2 as a two-episode premiere event. The first episode was titled “Gwimbly: Definitive Remastered Enhanced Extended Edition DX 4k (Anniversary Director’s Cut)”. The unusually elaborate title was part of the official Season 2 premiere announcement and trailer promotion.
The phrase “double premiere” refers to the broadcast event containing two new episodes. It does not change the streaming date: in the United States, Max followed the Adult Swim premiere with next-day availability on May 13.

For the U.S. schedule covered by the announcement, Max was the next-day streaming destination. If you missed the Adult Swim broadcast, you can stream Smiling Friends Season 2 through Max if the season is currently included in your local catalog and subscription route.
Max access can be obtained in more than one way, depending on location and plan. Max’s help information has documented direct Max subscriptions as well as access through participating services and providers, including Prime Video Channels, YouTube TV, Roku, certain cable or internet providers, and bundle routes involving Hulu, Disney+, and Max. These arrangements, plan terms, prices, and supported territories can change, so check the current provider information before subscribing.
Important: May 13, 2024 is the confirmed U.S. Max date. It should not automatically be treated as a worldwide release date. International viewers may have had different services, schedules, or availability.
Is Season 2 still on Max?
That is a current-catalog question rather than a premiere-date question. Streaming libraries and provider arrangements can change after a season’s release, and availability may vary by country or subscription route. Check the Max listing in your region immediately before watching rather than relying only on the historical premiere date.

The same caution applies to pricing, bundles, third-party channels, and cable-provider access. A provider that offered Max access in 2024 may have different terms later.

A Smiling Friends Blu-ray is an adjacent option for viewers who prefer to own the series instead of relying on streaming availability. The documented physical-media listing supports an earlier-season or series release, not a confirmed Season 2 Blu-ray. Do not treat a Season 1 disc as a physical release of Season 2, and check the product description carefully before buying.
