Jimmy Kimmel Live! was scheduled to return to ABC on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, after Disney announced the end of its suspension the day before. The network’s decision did not ensure the program aired on every local ABC station: some stations owned by Nexstar and Sinclair continued to preempt it in certain markets.
When was Jimmy Kimmel Live! due back on ABC?
Disney announced on Monday, September 22, 2025, that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would return to ABC the following Tuesday. ABC had suspended production indefinitely on September 17, following Kimmel’s comments about reactions to the killing of Charlie Kirk. ABC News reported the suspension on September 18, and the network’s return announcement was reported on September 22.

What did Disney say about lifting the suspension?
Disney said it had aimed to avoid inflaming a tense situation and considered some of Kimmel’s comments ill-timed and insensitive. The company said the decision to bring the show back followed conversations with Kimmel. PBS NewsHour reproduced Disney’s statement: “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

No. ABC’s decision restored the show to the network’s schedule, but local carriage was a separate matter. The Associated Press reported that some Nexstar- and Sinclair-owned stations continued to preempt the program in certain markets on its September 23 return night.
The AP report documents preemptions on that date; it does not establish which stations carry the show now. Associated Press: “Kimmel is back on ABC to big ratings, but some affiliates still refuse to air his show”.
