Disney’s 2025 live-action Lilo & Stitch is already streaming on Disney+ in the United States. It first became available to rent or buy digitally on July 22, 2025, before joining the Disney+ subscription catalog on September 3, 2025. This article covers the live-action remake—not the original 2002 animated film.
Release dates and catalogs vary by country, so viewers outside the U.S. should check the local Disney+ title page. The film’s U.K. Disney+ debut was also September 3, while Japan received it on September 17, 2025.
Updated August 9, 2026.
What is the current streaming status?
In the U.S., the live-action Lilo & Stitch is currently listed on Disney+. An active Disney+ subscription is required to watch it through that service; the movie is not a free, public stream simply because it is available in the Disney+ catalog.
Disney’s official film page identifies this title as the 2025 live-action reimagining of the 2002 animated classic. The U.S. Disney+ listing labels it as a PG movie and displays subtitle/closed-caption and audio-description indicators. Language tracks and accessibility options can differ by market and account.

When did Lilo & Stitch arrive on digital?
The movie reached U.S. digital retailers on July 22, 2025, when viewers could generally rent or purchase it through digital home-entertainment storefronts. Disney’s announcement confirms the July 22 digital date, and contemporary coverage identified retailers including Prime Video, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and YouTube.
This was a premium video-on-demand or PVOD release, also described as transactional video-on-demand, or TVOD. In practical terms, it meant paying a separate rental or purchase fee. It did not mean that the film had already become included with a Disney+ subscription.
Digital rental versus digital purchase
- Rental: Usually costs less than buying, but viewing access is time-limited. The exact viewing window and start deadline are set by the retailer.
- Purchase: Costs more upfront and is intended to remain available in the retailer’s digital library, although access remains tied to the retailer, account, territory, and its service terms.
- Subscription streaming: The film can be watched without a separate rental charge while it is included in the Disney+ catalog, but the viewer must maintain an eligible subscription.
Do not assume that a listing on Prime Video means the movie is included with Amazon Prime. Check whether the page says rent, buy, or included with a subscription before paying or starting playback.
When did it arrive on Disney+?
The U.S. Disney+ premiere was Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Disney included the title in its official September 2025 Disney+ schedule, and the current U.S. listing confirms that the film is now available.
That date came after both the theatrical and paid digital releases. Disney’s official release information gives the following U.S. timeline:
| Release stage | U.S. date | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| Theatrical release | May 23, 2025 | Exclusive cinema release |
| Digital rental and purchase | July 22, 2025 | Paid home viewing through digital retailers |
| 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD | August 26, 2025 | Physical home release |
| Disney+ subscription streaming | September 3, 2025 | Included with a Disney+ subscription |
How long was the theatrical-to-streaming wait?
Using the published U.S. dates, the movie took 103 days to move from its May 23 theatrical release to its September 3 Disney+ debut. It became available for digital rental or purchase after 60 days, on July 22, and there were 43 days between the paid digital release and subscription streaming.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Those intervals describe this film’s release window; they are not an official Disney formula or a guaranteed schedule for future movies. Contemporary analysis compared the timing with other Disney releases and suggested that the film’s strong theatrical performance was part of the context for the longer wait. That explanation is analysis rather than a release-window policy Disney has formally guaranteed.
Where can you watch it now?
| If you want to… | Best option | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Use a subscription you already have | Disney+ | No separate movie rental fee, but an active subscription is required. |
| Watch without subscribing to Disney+ | Rent it through a digital retailer | Rental access expires according to the retailer’s terms. |
| Keep a digital copy | Buy it through a digital retailer | Availability remains connected to the retailer account and territory. |
| Own a physical copy | 4K UHD, Blu-ray, or DVD | Requires a compatible disc player and physical storage. |
| Watch the original story | The 2002 animated Lilo & Stitch | This is a different film from the 2025 live-action remake. |
The film remains listed through digital home-entertainment services, including the Movies Anywhere page. Retailer availability, picture quality, rental periods, digital-copy rights, and pricing can change by country and platform. Movies Anywhere has displayed the title from $9.99 in its current new-release collection, but that is not a universal price and should not be treated as the price at every retailer.

The U.S. physical release was August 26, 2025, covering 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Disney announced the home-release dates in its digital and Blu-ray release notice.
Physical media is the clearest choice for viewers who want a collectible, a copy that does not depend on a streaming catalog, or offline playback. It is less convenient than Disney+ or a digital retailer, however, and requires the appropriate hardware.
Is this the 2025 remake or the 2002 animated movie?
There are two similarly titled films on Disney+, which makes this a common search mistake:
- Lilo & Stitch (2025): The live-action reimagining addressed here. Its Disney+ listing identifies it as a 2025 movie.
- Lilo & Stitch (2002): The original animated feature, with its own separate Disney+ listing.
Search results may also surface Stitch! The Movie, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, Leroy & Stitch, or the television series. Selecting the year and format on the title page is the simplest way to avoid opening the wrong production.

Does the release date vary by country?
Yes. The September 3, 2025 Disney+ date applies to the U.S. and was also announced for the U.K. by Disney’s U.K. press site. It should not be presented as a universal worldwide date.
Japan provides a documented example of a different schedule: Disney announced that the film would begin subscription streaming there on September 17, 2025, at 4 p.m. Japan time, following its June 6 Japanese theatrical release. International viewers should check their local Disney+ title page or Disney regional press site rather than rely on the U.S. date.
A title can also appear in a service’s general search results while remaining unavailable in a particular territory, profile, or account environment. Local catalog rules, language options, plan terms, and release dates all matter.
What time did it launch on Disney+?
For the original U.S. launch, contemporary entertainment coverage reported an expected arrival at approximately 12 a.m. Pacific Time / 3 a.m. Eastern Time on September 3, 2025. That timing was reported by SuperheroHype; Disney’s official U.S. title listings confirm the date but do not provide a title-specific launch-time guarantee in the source material.

Because the premiere has already occurred, the exact launch hour is no longer useful for most viewers. It also should not be treated as a promise that every future Disney+ title will release at the same time.
How long is the movie and what is its rating?
The film is rated PG. Disney’s Disney+ listing shows a runtime of approximately 1 hour 51 minutes, while Disney’s film page gives 1 hour 52 minutes and Apple TV lists 1 hour 48 minutes. These small differences appear to be platform metadata or rounding differences, not different versions of the movie.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why do some pages still say it has not arrived?
Many articles about this release were written before September 3, 2025 and are now historical rather than current viewing guides. For example, pre-release coverage accurately described the movie as theatrical-only at the time, while another page still combines the old statement that viewers could not stream it with the later September 3 date. Those mixed pages can make a completed release look like a future event.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Disney’s 2025 live-action Lilo & Stitch is already on Disney+ in the U.S., where it arrived on September 3, 2025. The earlier July 22 release was paid digital rental or purchase—not Disney+ subscription streaming. For viewers outside the U.S., verify the local Disney+ listing, and make sure the selected title is the 2025 live-action remake rather than the 2002 animated original.
