Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is the confirmed animated extension of the franchise—and it is no longer upcoming. Its 10-episode first season premiered on Netflix on April 23, 2026, and season two began streaming September 17, 2026. Netflix’s official updates reviewed here do not confirm another separately named live-action spinoff.
What is the new Stranger Things spinoff?
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is an animated series set in Hawkins in the winter of 1985, between seasons two and three of the original live-action series. Netflix describes it as a new story featuring familiar characters. Its principal animated ensemble includes Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Nikki. Netflix’s season-one announcement introduced the series and its creative team.
Who is making it?
Eric Robles is the showrunner. Matt and Ross Duffer, creators of the original franchise, are executive producers. Robles summed up the show’s creature premise to Netflix Tudum as: “It’s like Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter.” Netflix’s interview with Robles also explains the animated series’ placement in the franchise timeline.
Are Tales From ’85 seasons 1 and 2 available?
Yes. Season one has 10 episodes and began streaming April 23, 2026. Season two began streaming September 17, 2026, and continues after the first season’s finale: the Hawkins Investigators Club faces a new paranormal threat. Netflix’s season-two update confirms its release and setup. Netflix’s series hub lists two seasons; check it for any releases or renewals announced after October 3, 2026. Netflix series hub

Has Netflix announced another live-action spinoff?
Netflix has not confirmed another separately named live-action Stranger Things spinoff in the official updates reviewed for this article. That is a statement about those updates, not proof that no project could be in development or announced later. Netflix’s March 18, 2026 Duffer Brothers project roundup is a dated reference, not a guarantee about future announcements.

The original series ending does not mean the franchise has stopped expanding. Netflix lists Tales From ’85 alongside other kinds of extensions, including the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow, books, merchandise, and immersive experiences. These are not all television spinoffs, and their formats and availability differ. Netflix’s franchise overview describes those categories.
