The week’s biggest U.S. streaming arrivals cluster on Friday, Aug. 22: Netflix’s animated comedy Long Story Short and Jussie Smollett documentary, Apple TV+’s Invasion Season 3, Hulu action film Eenie Meanie, and Peacock’s animated Night of the Zoopocalypse. Max’s Peacemaker returns a day earlier, on Thursday. Here are the most notable new movies and shows arriving Aug. 18–24, with the service and format for each.
This is a U.S.-focused guide to scheduled subscription-streaming premieres and notable catalog arrivals—not a promise that every title is new worldwide or will remain on a service indefinitely.
Five weekend picks to know
- Long Story Short — Netflix, Friday, Aug. 22: A 10-episode animated comedy from Raphael Bob-Waksberg, creator of BoJack Horseman. It follows a family and its siblings across different periods of their lives. Best for viewers after a creator-led comedy they can binge; Netflix is releasing all 10 episodes together, according to TVLine’s calendar.
- Invasion Season 3 — Apple TV+, Friday, Aug. 22: The serialized science-fiction drama returns. It’s the week’s option for viewers who want a continuing, large-scale alien-invasion story rather than a one-night movie. The available schedule confirms the season premiere date, but not its episode-drop pattern, so don’t assume the full season arrives at once.
- Eenie Meanie — Hulu, Friday, Aug. 22: Samara Weaving stars as a former getaway driver drawn back into criminal work by an offer that could save her unreliable ex-boyfriend. Steve Zahn, Randall Park, Andy Garcia, Karl Glusman and Marshawn Lynch are also listed in preview coverage. - Peacemaker Season 2 — Max, Thursday, Aug. 21: John Cena returns as Christopher Smith in the DC superhero series. It’s included here because it is newly available for the weekend, even though its premiere is Thursday. Its connection to James Gunn’s developing DC continuity gives franchise followers an added reason to tune in; that is a viewing hook, not a quality guarantee.
- Night of the Zoopocalypse — Peacock, Friday, Aug. 22: An animated family-film arrival suited to households looking for something new to watch together. Treat the date as a Peacock streaming arrival, not necessarily the film’s worldwide debut.
These picks favor freshness, a distinctive premise or recognizable creative hook, and usefulness for a weekend watch. They are editorial recommendations, not a ranking of critical quality.

Third-party calendars can miss small-service additions or last-minute changes, so this is a guide to notable scheduled titles, not a guarantee of every catalog change.
Saturday and Sunday: fewer major streaming debuts
No major subscription-streaming premiere was identified for Saturday, Aug. 23, in the cited weekly schedule. The Hallmark film Double Scoop aired on linear television that day, which is different from a confirmed streaming-app debut. Sunday, Aug. 24, was also dominated by television and PBS listings, including The Last Rhinos: A New Hope, Professor T Season 4, The Marlow Murder Club Season 2 and Unforgotten Season 6. Some may be available through associated apps or services, but the schedule does not establish those streaming details.

- Action movie: Eenie Meanie on Hulu.
- Superhero series: Peacemaker Season 2 on Max.
- Family animation: Night of the Zoopocalypse on Peacock.
- Documentary/current affairs: The Truth About Jussie Smollett? on Netflix, a documentary with interviews involving people connected to the case.
- Reality adventure: 007: Road to a Million Season 2 on Prime Video, listed as an eight-episode binge.
What this guide does—and doesn’t—count
A title being “new to streaming” does not always mean it was just made or released for the first time. Some arrivals are new originals or new seasons; others, such as Extant, are older catalog titles newly listed on a service. The guide focuses on scheduled U.S. subscription-streaming arrivals and notable additions. It leaves out most routine weekly episodes, international-only releases, unverified catalog changes and films available only to rent or buy. Prime Video listings can include rentals, purchases or add-on channels as well as subscription-included titles, so check the title page before assuming it is included with a membership.
