What is season 2 about?
The official synopsis places Dexter between two killers. One has decades of notoriety and a long list of kills. The other is a younger killer who is terrorizing New York in new ways. The synopsis also says Dexter faces a mid-life crisis, and that Harrison continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet.
The September 8, 2026 announcement puts it this way: “Meanwhile, Dexter battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis.” It also describes Harrison’s storyline as: “Harrison (Jack Alcott) continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet.” Both lines are promotional copy from Paramount+, not a critical assessment.

What the franchise framing means
Paramount’s season-two materials mention the franchise’s 20-year anniversary. That is a marketing reference to the franchise’s history. It is not a viewership or performance figure, and the official materials do not report one.
