What can be established is that it was a limited-edition purple shake in McDonald’s 2023 Grimace Birthday Meal promotion, and the company’s launch description does not identify a specific flavor or provide a detailed ingredient list.
What was the Grimace Shake?
McDonald’s USA announced the Grimace Birthday Meal on June 6, 2023, with the promotion scheduled to begin June 12 at participating U.S. restaurants, while supplies lasted. The meal paired the limited-edition shake with a choice of a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets and fries. The company said the shake was “inspired by Grimace’s iconic color and sweetness”—promotional wording, not a recipe or a precise flavor description. McDonald’s launch announcement
What does it taste like?
There is no firsthand tasting behind this article, so we can’t give you an honest sensory verdict on its aroma, sweetness, texture, or aftertaste. Nor does McDonald’s launch announcement confirm a particular flavor such as berry or birthday cake. A creator’s dated taste-test can show what that person reported, but it is not a substitute for our own experience. emmymade’s June 15, 2023 taste-test video
Is the Grimace Shake available now?
The available announcements establish historical releases, not current menu status. McDonald’s Canada later announced a limited-time Canadian release, and McDonald’s UK announced a comeback. Those regional announcements don’t show that the shake is sold today, or that it is available in any particular restaurant. Check your local McDonald’s menu for current availability. What the launch does—and doesn’t—tell us
The company framed the 2023 promotion around Grimace’s birthday and fans’ memories. In its launch announcement, McDonald’s Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer Tariq Hassan said, “We know birthdays with McDonald’s hold a special place in our fans’ hearts.” That quotation describes the campaign’s promotional context; it doesn’t establish the shake’s recipe, popularity, or present-day availability.
McDonald’s campaign agency also documents the birthday campaign, but that material does not establish ingredients or whether the shake is currently on sale. Wieden+Kennedy campaign page
