Harvey Specter’s most famous watch may be famous precisely because he barely wore it. Gabriel Macht said the Suits character appeared with a watch only once, probably in Season 1. The watch was identified as a Patek Philippe 5004P, although neither Macht nor the interview confirmed that the screen prop was authentic.
Harvey Specter was not a regular watch wearer on Suits. According to Gabriel Macht, who played the character, Harvey wore a watch only once—probably in Season 1, roughly five seasons before Macht gave a 2016 interview to Time+Tide Watches. The watch associated with that appearance was identified as a Patek Philippe reference 5004P, a platinum split-seconds chronograph with a perpetual calendar.
That does not establish that the prop was a genuine Patek Philippe. Macht said he did not know whether it was authentic and doubted that the production had the budget to use a real 5004P. The most accurate description is therefore that Suits presented Harvey with, or associated him with, a Patek Philippe 5004P—not that the show definitively used an authentic one.

The title of the original feature refers to Harvey Specter, but the interview subject was Gabriel Macht. Macht was speaking while working on the sixth season of Suits, the USA Network legal drama in which he played the sharply dressed attorney.

At the time, the show was filming in Toronto and had sixteen Season 6 episodes planned. Macht was also directing an episode titled “Borrowed Time,” a piece of 2016 production context rather than a description of the series’ eventual status. Suits later ran for nine seasons and concluded in 2019.
Harvey’s Patek Philippe appeared only once
The surprising point in Macht’s account is how little screen time Harvey’s watch actually received. Macht said the character wore one only once, approximately five seasons earlier and probably during the first season.
After that, the production generally left Harvey’s wrist bare. Macht offered two practical and stylistic explanations:
- The suits looked better without a watch. Harvey’s tailored wardrobe was intended to read as clean, controlled and expensive. A visible watch could interrupt that silhouette.
- Rapid costume changes made watch coverage difficult. Because the show moved quickly between outfits, it was not always practical to secure useful shots of a small wardrobe detail such as a watch.
Macht also noted that Suits did not generally emphasize jewelry or tiny accessories. Harvey’s authority was communicated more consistently through his suits, posture, dialogue and behavior than through a collection of visible wristwear.
Which Patek Philippe was associated with Harvey Specter?
The reference named in the feature was the Patek Philippe 5004P. The “P” denotes the platinum version of the reference. The 5004 is known for combining two complications that are particularly demanding in a mechanical watch:
- A perpetual calendar: a calendar mechanism designed to account for the differing lengths of months and the leap-year cycle, subject to the limits of its programmed calendar and the need for correction over very long periods.
- A split-seconds chronograph: also called a rattrapante chronograph, allowing the wearer to time an intermediate event while the main chronograph continues running.
Bonhams’ 2015 fine-watch catalogue described a circa-1995 Patek Philippe reference 5004P as a platinum, manually wound split-seconds chronograph with perpetual-calendar functionality. That auction description supports the technical identity of the reference. It does not prove that the watch shown on Suits was genuine, nor that the particular watch listed by Bonhams was the screen-used prop.
Was Harvey Specter’s Patek Philippe real?
There is no reliable basis for saying that it was. Macht explicitly said he did not know whether the watch was authentic and believed the prop department probably would not have had enough money for an actual Patek Philippe 5004P.

That qualification matters. The 5004P is a rare, high-value collector’s watch, and its technical complexity makes it a poor candidate for casual use as an unprotected television prop. A production can reproduce the visual impression of a luxury watch without placing a six-figure—or potentially much more valuable—complication on an actor’s wrist.
So the defensible conclusion is:
Harvey Specter was shown wearing a watch on one early occasion, and the watch was identified with the Patek Philippe 5004P. Gabriel Macht did not authenticate the prop, and the interview gives no evidence that it was a genuine 5004P.
Why the 5004P suited Harvey’s image
Even as a fictional accessory, the 5004P was an unusually effective choice for Harvey. Its message was not simply “expensive watch.” It suggested technical mastery, rarity and a kind of controlled excess that matched the character’s self-conscious presentation.
Harvey’s wardrobe—frequently associated with Tom Ford suiting—was polished without appearing accidental. A complicated platinum Patek could reinforce several traits at once:

This is an interpretation of why the reference fit the character, not a claim that Harvey’s fictional biography explicitly identified the watch. The show’s more important styling decision was ultimately to remove the watch from his regular wardrobe. Harvey did not need to prove his status every time the camera showed his cuff.
The watch Gabriel Macht valued most was not the Patek
Macht’s own favorite watch, as described in the 2016 interview, was a Breitling Superocean. The story behind it was more important to him than its luxury status.
Macht and his wife, Jacinda Barrett, had bought the watch for his father-in-law, Jerry, as a seventieth-birthday gift. After Jerry died, Macht inherited it. At the time of the interview, he said he had worn it almost continuously for about seven years.

The interview does not give a complete reference number for the Breitling, so it should not be narrowed to a specific Superocean model. Breitling’s Superocean name identifies a watch collection, not one unique reference. What can be said with confidence is that Macht described an inherited Breitling Superocean as his most prized possession because it connected him to his father-in-law.
That creates a useful contrast with Harvey’s screen image. Harvey’s associated Patek represents controlled wealth and professional intimidation. Macht’s Breitling represents grief, family and continuity. One watch works as character language; the other works as personal history.

Macht also discussed an early-1970s Omega, identified in the feature’s image caption as a Seamaster Cosmic 2000. It had belonged to Jerry as well. Macht liked its vintage character and noted that its period roughly corresponded with the time of his own birth.
He wore the Omega less often than the Breitling, not because it lacked interest, but because the Breitling carried the stronger emotional association. The interview does not establish every detail of the Omega’s reference, condition or service history, so it is best treated as a vintage family watch rather than as a precisely documented collectible.
The Omega pocket watch from Scarlett Johansson
Another meaningful object was a pocket watch given to Macht by Scarlett Johansson as a set gift from the film A Love Song for Bobby Long. The interview provides the important provenance: it was a gift connected to the film and to the period of Macht’s life in which he made it.
The feature’s image caption described the item broadly as an Omega pocket watch, but the interview does not establish a definitive reference number or production year. Those details should not be filled in by assumption.

These are details from Macht’s 2016 recollection, not a verified list of everything he currently owns. Their value is autobiographical: the watches mark childhood, school, sports, early adulthood, family and changing technology.
Why Macht did not have a dream watch
Many celebrity watch interviews end with a wish list of rare references. Macht’s answer was different. He said he did not have an outstanding dream watch because the inherited Breitling already occupied that role for him.
That answer captures the broader theme of the interview. Macht appreciated mechanical watches as crafted objects and described them as enduring or “timeless” in a broad cultural sense. But his strongest attachment did not come from complication, scarcity or price. It came from the person connected to the watch.
His Swatches recalled friends and schoolmates. The Omega recalled Jerry and a vintage period close to Macht’s birth. The Breitling carried the direct emotional weight of inheritance. The pocket watch preserved a memory of a film and a particular stage of his career.

Online discussions often treat Harvey Specter as though he were a consistent luxury-watch collector. Macht’s account points in the opposite direction. The character’s watch was a limited screen detail, probably confined to one early appearance, while the show’s visual identity depended on the uninterrupted line of his suits.
The Patek Philippe 5004P remains a compelling association because it is so well matched to Harvey’s persona. But it should be understood as a piece of costume and character interpretation, not as evidence of a continuously worn screen watch or a confirmed production-owned Patek.
For Macht, the more important watches were the ones that carried stories. That is the real distinction between the fictional lawyer’s carefully controlled image and the actor’s collection: Harvey’s watch communicates what other people are meant to think of him; Macht’s watches preserve what particular people and moments mean to him.
