The 2022 MomTok swinging scandal began with Taylor Frankie Paul’s account of a consensual “soft-swinging” arrangement—and her admission that she crossed the boundaries she and her then-husband had set. It did not establish that every MomTok creator took part. Later reporting said most members were not swingers, despite rumors that spread far beyond the small group Paul described.
What does “soft swinging” mean in this case?
Hulu’s guide to The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives describes “soft-swinging” as consensual physical intimacy under rules and boundaries, short of fully swapping partners. That is the term’s meaning in Hulu’s account of this particular arrangement, not a universal definition that applies to every relationship.
MomTok refers to a TikTok community of mothers who post about motherhood and their lives. According to Hulu’s guide, Paul said she and a small group of MomTok creators and their husbands had agreed to soft-swing.
What did Taylor Frankie Paul say happened?
The Washington Post reported that Paul announced her divorce in May 2022 and discussed the arrangement on TikTok Live five days later. She said she had violated the boundaries she and her husband had agreed on.

During that 2022 live, Paul also said, “No one is innocent. Everyone has hooked up with everyone.” That is her broad public claim, not independent confirmation that every MomTok creator participated.
Who was involved—and what remains speculation?
Paul later addressed the names circulating around the story in an interview with Axios. She said names had been mentioned, but “they weren’t involved — at least most of them weren’t.” Her qualification matters: the public discussion implicated a wider circle than the small group she described, but it does not establish who else, if anyone, participated.

TIME reported that most group members were not swingers, though many had to contend with rumors. Mayci Neeley told TheWrap that viewers believed all of MomTok was swinging together. The available reporting supports describing how the rumor spread; it does not justify naming additional participants based on online speculation.

The Washington Post describes damage to friendships, reputations and brand relationships after the disclosure. Hulu’s guide also says the speculation contributed to follower declines and lost brand deals, but it gives no underlying figures or independent measurement of those effects.
