Oreo Canada’s Star Wars cookies came in two versions: one with red, dark-side crème and one with blue, light-side crème. Both were described as containing sugar crystals inspired by lightsaber kyber crystals, and buyers learned which version they had only after opening the identically packaged box. Mondelēz announced the limited-edition Canadian release in May 2024; it is not a new 2026 launch.
What was inside the Star Wars OREO packs?
Each pack held one of two varieties. The exterior packaging was identical, so the side was a surprise until the box was opened. The crème in both varieties was described as infused with “kyber” sugar crystals inspired by lightsaber crystals.
| Variety | Crème colour | Character embossment examples named by Mondelēz |
|---|---|---|
| Dark side | Red | Darth Vader, Darth Maul and a stormtrooper |
| Light side | Blue | Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Princess Leia |
Mondelēz said there were ten character embossments in each variety, twenty total. The examples above are those named in the company’s announcement; it did not list every character.
When did the Canadian cookies launch?
Mondelēz International announced the collaboration with Lucasfilm on May 15, 2024. The company said a rollout to retailers across Canada would begin June 10, 2024, for a limited time and while supplies lasted. That announcement describes the planned 2024 release; it does not confirm current Canadian inventory.

What did the packaging look like?
The packaging featured original character artwork described by Mondelēz as hand-painted by illustrator Greg Hildebrandt, whom the company identified as a Star Wars poster artist since 1977. The announcement did not identify every figure depicted in the artwork.
Is the Star Wars OREO product listed now the same one?
No. OREO’s U.S. website currently lists a separate product, “OREOiD Special Edition Star Wars™ 12ct”: a box of fudge-dipped, sprinkled classic OREO sandwich cookies with Star Wars-themed designs. It is distinct from the 2024 Canadian packs with red or blue crème, and the U.S. listing does not establish Canadian availability or stock of the original release. The page showed a price of $42.99 when checked; that listing price and availability can change.

What did OREO say about the collaboration?
In the announcement, Colleen Bowker, Brand Manager, OREO Canada, said the partnership brought together Star Wars and OREO fandoms and that the company hoped fans would be excited about the launch. The same release cited brand-reported figures of more than 60 billion OREO cookies sold worldwide each year, more than 20 billion annually in the U.S., and an estimated 500 billion sold since the first biscuit was developed in 1912. Mondelēz did not provide methodology or specify the measurement year for those annual figures, so they should be read as company claims rather than independently verified current totals.
