At the Feb. 2, 2025, 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards, Trevor Noah joked that tariffs could make a new Beyoncé tour unaffordable, then delivered a maple-syrup punchline: “There’s tariffs. We can’t afford a new tour, right? Maple syrup is about to be $50.” That wording was transcribed by contemporaneous secondary coverage, not an official transcript. The $50 figure was a joke—not a verified price or forecast.

What did Trevor Noah say about tariffs?

In his opening monologue, Noah linked tariffs to the cost of a Beyoncé tour and then quipped that maple syrup was “about to be $50.” Entertainment Tonight’s Feb. 2 video description also identified President Donald Trump’s newly installed tariffs as one of the monologue’s subjects; contemporaneous coverage supplied the quoted maple-syrup wording. Entertainment Tonight’s coverage and People’s report are secondary accounts, not an official transcript.

Was maple syrup really expected to cost $50?

No. The $50 line was a punchline, not an independently verified retail price, forecast, or calculation of tariff effects. The available coverage does not establish a tariff rate, the syrup’s country of origin, a specific product price, or how tariffs would affect its cost. The joke used the possibility of higher costs to connect trade policy with touring and everyday consumer goods; it should not be treated as economic data.

Why was the monologue framed by the Los Angeles wildfires?

The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards took place live at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Feb. 2, 2025. Noah returned as host for the fifth consecutive year and also served as a producer. The ceremony’s stated purpose included raising funds for wildfire relief and honoring first responders. The Recording Academy’s Jan. 27 viewing guide reported that, since the relief fund launched on Jan. 9, the Recording Academy and MusiCares had distributed more than $4 million in emergency aid to over 2,000 music professionals affected by the fires. Those are figures reported as of Jan. 27, 2025, not current totals.

The Associated Press described Noah’s opening as beginning on a sober note about the fires before moving into rapid-fire jokes. AP also reported that he returned to promoting wildfire aid before introducing Billie Eilish. The mix of humor and relief messaging took place within a show whose organizers had explicitly emphasized support for people affected by the fires.

Was this a serious criticism of tariffs?

The reported lines are framed as jokes, not a detailed policy argument. Noah’s gag connected tariffs to potential costs, using Beyoncé’s tour and maple syrup for comic effect. The cited coverage does not provide a tariff analysis or establish a specific financial consequence; interpreting the punchline as proof of a particular price increase would go beyond what the reporting supports.

Where could viewers watch the 2025 ceremony?

For the 2025 broadcast, the Recording Academy said the ceremony aired on CBS and streamed on Paramount+, with availability depending on subscription tier at the time. That historical listing does not establish whether a replay is still available today. Check the services’ current listings before looking for an on-demand version.
