What exactly is the French scalp serum?
Hair Rituel by Sisley Revitalizing Fortifying Super Serum Advanced Formula is a 60 ml scalp serum sold on Sisley’s US site. Sisley listed the bottle at $280 when the page was checked on October 13, 2026; price and availability can change. The product is designed to be spread directly over the scalp, left on, and used as a multi-month treatment.
The “French scalp serum” description comes from the Harper’s Bazaar article published September 3, 2026. The article identifies the product and records Intner’s first-person experience: a light, water-like texture, quick drying, and use on either wet or dry hair. Her account is useful for sensory expectations, but one person’s month of use cannot establish that the product caused a biological increase in hair density.
Sisley’s positioning centers on the scalp environment. Pauline Poussin, identified by Harper’s Bazaar as Hair Rituel’s scientific communications manager, told the magazine: “While the gut and skin microbiomes are well understood, there had been a gap in knowledge of the scalp microbiota—until now.” Poussin also said that certain bacterial strains “trigger hair follicles that are dormant from chronic inflammation, which contributes to hair loss.” These are statements from a brand representative, not an independent medical consensus or a diagnosis of any individual’s hair loss.

In the same interview, Poussin compared scalp care with “caring for fertile soil,” saying that an optimal skin environment supports strong hair. That metaphor explains the product’s approach, but it does not show that the serum treats a particular form of alopecia or reverses a medical condition.
What does Sisley say the testing found?
Sisley’s official product page reports several results from different kinds of testing. They should not be combined into one “clinical proof” figure. Some outcomes were instrument-measured, some were panelist opinions, and one was an ex vivo observation on skin tissue.

The page also distinguishes a decrease in shedding-phase bulbs from other density language. Because these metrics use different endpoints and methods, an 84% density figure cannot be presented as though all 55 volunteers experienced a medically confirmed regrowth response. Sisley supplied the measurements and test descriptions; no independent publication or underlying dataset was identified in the reviewed product information.
How to apply the serum correctly
Sisley’s routine is specific and extends over three months. The company does not instruct users to rinse the product out.

- Choose dry or damp hair. Apply after washing once the scalp is dry, or use on a damp scalp. Intner’s account says the serum dries quickly and can be used in either state.
- Use three full droppers. Sisley specifies three full droppers across the scalp rather than a few drops placed only at the part.
- Work section by section. Start at the temples and move toward the back of the head. Pay extra attention to areas that look thinner.
- Massage with your fingertips. Spread the liquid over the scalp with your fingers so it is not concentrated in one stripe.
- Do not rinse. Let the leave-in formula dry before styling.
- Follow the schedule. Use it every two days for the first month, then twice a week for the next two months.
- Optionally use a massage brush. Sisley recommends wide, circular motions with a brush after application. The directions describe soft silicone bristles but do not specify a required model or say that one is included.
Keeping the amount and timing consistent matters if you want your own observations to be meaningful. Take photographs in the same lighting and hairstyle at regular intervals rather than judging density from a single day when hair may be freshly washed, humid, flattened by a hat or arranged differently.
What does it feel and smell like?
Harper’s Bazaar describes a lightweight, water-like serum that dries quickly. That texture may appeal to people who dislike oily scalp products or heavy roots. It is still a liquid leave-in treatment: applying the full three-droppers dose can feel different from testing one drop on your hand.
Intner reported a strong botanical fragrance, including mimosa flower and pepper notes. Fragrance perception varies, and scent can linger differently depending on hair length, styling products and ventilation. If you are sensitive to fragrance, patch-testing a small area and checking with a dermatologist before applying it broadly is prudent.
What is in the formula?
Sisley highlights ginger extract, yeast extract isolated from Azalea flowers, amla extract, linseed extract, rice protein, vitamin B12 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7. Denatured alcohol can help a watery product spread and dry quickly, but it may feel drying or sting on some scalps. Fragrance is relevant for anyone with a history of contact reactions. The presence of an ingredient does not predict how your own skin will respond, and “botanical” does not mean irritation-free.
Read the current package ingredient panel before use, especially if you have eczema, psoriasis, a damaged scalp, known fragrance allergies or a reaction to alcohol-based cosmetics. Separate the outcomes you are measuring:
- Appearance: Does the hair look fuller under the same conditions?
- Shedding: Has the amount noticed during washing or brushing changed? This is an imperfect home observation, not a clinical count.
- Scalp tolerance: Is there burning, persistent itch, flaking or redness?
- Routine fit: Can you apply three full droppers and leave the product in without unacceptable residue or fragrance?
